High-tech agricultural development

Việt NamViệt Nam28/10/2024

In 2024, the Quang Ninh agricultural sector is determined to continue to strongly develop high-tech, organic, and circular agriculture. Localities with strengths in this field have proactively increased investment attraction in agriculture, boldly applied high technology in production, processing, and added value to the province's agricultural production.

The High-tech Pig Farm Project invested by Greentech Livestock Joint Stock Company in Quang Son Commune (Hai Ha District) is the largest high-tech livestock project in the North. The project has a total investment of over 600 billion VND, built on an area of 45.2 hectares, located in the district's concentrated livestock planning area.

With a herd size of 5,000 sows, 20,000 weaned pigs, 40,000 pigs/litter, applying closed cold farm technology according to European standards, ensuring biosafety with 100% of the tunnel system, the project when put into operation will not only be important for the agricultural development of Hai Ha district but also contribute positively to the overall growth of the agricultural sector of Quang Ninh province, ensuring the implementation of the target of GRDP growth of the whole industry of over 4% in 2024. Mr. Bui Van Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Greentech Livestock Joint Stock Company, said: Since the beginning of the project implementation, the unit has received active support from Hai Ha district, especially the early site clearance work to facilitate project implementation. Thanks to that, the project progress is guaranteed according to the set commitments. To ensure the best quality, the unit is expected to put the sow barn system into operation next November; striving to reach 50% capacity by December, equivalent to about 2,500 sows.

In addition to attracting businesses to invest in high-tech agriculture, gradually changing farmers' production thinking plays an important role. In many localities, farmers have gradually shifted from small-scale, fragmented household production to boldly approaching and applying science and technology in livestock and crop farming, developing sustainable agriculture, and improving the competitiveness of agricultural products. In Tien Yen district, the "2 animals, 1 tree" model (chicken, shrimp and medicinal plants) has been effectively implemented, creating sustainable development in the agricultural sector, gradually forming concentrated farming areas in the direction of advanced commodity production.

Recently, the Tien Yen District Sustainable Aquaculture Club was launched under the propaganda, mobilization and support of the Center for Supporting Farmers and Rural Areas (Central Vietnam Farmers' Union), the Provincial Farmers' Union and the High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company. The club has 52 members, most of whom are shrimp farmers in the area. Members are trained, transferred science and technology and carry out shrimp farming according to a biological balance process, without using chemicals or antibiotics; sharing experiences in super-intensive shrimp farming - circulation - disease isolation - eliminating causes of risks early - from afar - towards the goal of raising shrimp to meet ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) and BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices of the Global Aquaculture Alliance - GAA) standards. Mr. Ly Van Gieng, Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Tien Yen District, shared: The Association identifies the application of science and technology as a key solution to promote sustainable production and aquaculture development, including shrimp. Farmers need to have close links and cooperation with each other, share experiences, and support each other in technical and market issues, etc. to limit risks and develop together.

In 2024, the agricultural sector will continue to develop according to the strategy of high-tech, organic, circular agriculture, associated with the construction of modern new rural areas and civilized farmers; encourage livestock farms to apply good livestock practices (VietGAP), organic livestock farming, and biosafety livestock farming. At the same time, continue to implement the project "Developing organic agriculture in Quang Ninh province to 2025, with a vision to 2030". The province's agricultural production development perspective focuses on developing key products with high added value as an advantage; promoting the application of science and technology associated with mechanization and developing the agricultural processing industry; enhancing product diversification, traceability, developing production linkages to create production and business value chains, improving efficiency and competitiveness in cooperation.
