Sustainable development of ethnic minority areas

Many projects and works on economic and social infrastructure have been invested synchronously, gradually solving urgent problems in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

After more than 3 years of implementation, from the investment resources of the National Target Program 1719, ethnic minority and mountainous areas have had clear changes, the lives of people in difficult areas have gradually improved. Implementing Project 1 "Solving the shortage of residential land, housing, production land, and domestic water", in 2023, Tam Duong district was assigned 312 million VND to solve the shortage of domestic water for people. From this capital source, the district supported 276 million VND to help 92 ethnic minority households in Nung Nang commune and 12 households in Binh Lu commune buy clean water tanks.

Directly benefiting from the support, Mr. Vang A Ha - Phan Chu Hoa village, Nung Nang commune shared that in the past, people in the village often used stream water for bathing, eating, and drinking. Every day, people had to go to the stream to carry water back for use. We were very excited to receive support for buying tanks to store water for daily use. Having clean water to use, our family's health is also guaranteed, and we do not have to struggle due to lack of water during the dry season.

Similarly, in Muong Te district, from resources of national target programs, especially National Target Program 1719, the locality has focused on investing in infrastructure development, including the construction and repair of clean water works. Mr. Dao Van Khanh - Chairman of Muong Te District People's Committee said that in recent years, the district has proactively built a domestic water system with water pipes to communes and villages for people. Up to now, the whole district has invested in building 114 clean water works to communes and villages. All clean water works have been effective after investment, the rate of people in the area using clean water for daily life has reached 95.9%.

Up to now, the National Target Program 1719 has achieved positive results, contributing to changing the face of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Lai Chau province. In difficult areas, remote areas, investment and support contents directly related to people such as support for residential land, housing, job conversion, and domestic water (Project 1); fostering ethnic knowledge, vocational training, and capacity building for the community (Project 5); gender equality policy (Project 8); policy to reduce early marriage and incestuous marriage (Project 9) ... have brought positive effects, improving the spiritual and material life of ethnic minorities.

Resources from national target programs, including the National Target Program 1719, have created great momentum for Lai Chau to implement targets and tasks on socio-economic development and sustainable poverty reduction. The preliminary results of the implementation of national target programs for the 2021-2025 period in the province (September 2024) show that many targets have been achieved and exceeded the plan and goals for the whole period such as: The rate of poor households decreased by an average of 4.09%/year, and the rate of poor districts decreased by an average of 5.49%/year.

Currently, the rate of communes with asphalt or concrete roads to the commune center is 100%; the rate of solidly built health stations is 100%; the rate of children from poor and near-poor households going to school at the right age is 98.3%; the rate of poor and near-poor households using hygienic water for daily life is 92%; 100% of poor and near-poor households in poor districts in need of housing support...
