At the opening ceremony of the TECHFEST 2024 creative startup festival this afternoon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party and State always consider science, technology and innovation as one of the top national policies for rapid and sustainable development.
However, the Prime Minister also pointed out the current reality that the creative startup ecosystem in our country is still in the formation stage, lacking resources to accelerate and develop strongly. Innovation in thinking is still slow, and there has not been a breakthrough in new technologies and new business models.
The content and concept of creative startups and support for creative startups have not been standardized, causing difficulties in applying preferential policies. Not many large corporations and enterprises are interested in, supporting and investing in creative startups. Space and infrastructure for piloting and testing technologies have not met practical needs, especially in high-tech and new technology fields.
To address the above shortcomings, the Prime Minister requested to focus on perfecting institutions to promote innovation, clearly defining priority areas and directions for science and technology, creative startups, focusing on the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, internet of things, blockchain, climate change response, green development, circular economy, knowledge economy, overcoming resource depletion, population aging, etc.
Dare to think, dare to do, dare to take risks
To develop the startup ecosystem, the Prime Minister said that there needs to be closer links between the State, training and research institutions and businesses. The State plays a role in creating development, building institutions, mechanisms, policies, and state management; institutes and schools train human resources, create motivation, and inspire innovation and startups; businesses support, place orders, and create an environment for the development of innovative startups.
The Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to form a market for innovation; promote the strong role of venture capital fund models and risk-accepting mechanisms and policies, and release resources from the business community, especially large corporations and enterprises, to invest in developing the innovative startup ecosystem.
"Creative startups require new thinking, new awareness, new ways of doing things. There must be a supportive mindset, instead of banning if you can't manage it. There must be a mindset of cooperation and development, instead of begging for it. There must be a long-term mindset, for the common good, long-term, instead of just thinking about immediate benefits.
"Creative startups require daring to think, daring to do, daring to accept risks, daring to pioneer, daring to act, surpassing oneself, dedicating oneself to the interests of the nation and people, for the bright future of the country, including one's own interests," the Prime Minister directed.
