During his visit on April 4, Kim Jong Un stressed that military training is the “most vivid manifestation of patriotism and loyalty to the country”. He claimed that the training of this force has improved “the actual war capability to ensure victory”.
North Korea's state news agency KCNA released a series of images showing Mr. Kim aiming through the scope of a sniper rifle said to be "a new weapon equipped for special operations units".

Other photos showed Kim crouching next to camouflaged soldiers, pointing at targets and waving to special forces. He also personally supervised automatic rifle and sniper drills, later expressing “great satisfaction” with the performance of the North’s domestically developed weapon.
Kim's move came on the same day that the Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol over his controversial declaration of martial law on December 3. The ruling resulted in Yoon's removal from office and a new election.
KCNA also reported the impeachment of the South Korean president for the first time on April 5, citing foreign media sources. Analysts say the most likely candidate for the next president is opposition leader Lee Jae-myung, who has been more conciliatory and soft on North Korea.
