Thus, the young billionaire has officially entered the "200 billion USD billionaire club" with three other members: Founder and CEO of Tesla and X platform Elon Musk, founder of e-commerce company Amazon Jeff Bezos and CEO of the world's leading luxury fashion brand LVMH Bernard Arnault.
Bloomberg statistics show that billionaire Musk - currently owning assets worth 272 billion USD - is the richest person in the world. Next, billionaire Bezos owns 211 billion USD, ranking second. In third place is billionaire Arnault with 207 billion USD.
Thanks to his increased wealth this year, billionaire Zuckerberg is now the fourth richest person in the world, but he is likely to soon surpass the person in front to rise to third place in the near future.
Mr Zuckerberg, 40, first launched the social networking platform Facebook in 2004 and quickly became one of the world's most famous self-made billionaires. Much of his wealth is tied to shares of Meta (then Facebook).
Meta's stock price (ticker: META) has increased nearly 64% year-to-date, amid a general surge in tech stocks in the US and globally.
On September 25, after the Meta Connect 2024 event, Meta shares increased by 0.9% and closed the trading session at a record high of $568.31/share. However, by September 29, the stock fell to $567.36/share.
Speaking at the Meta Connect 2024 event, billionaire Zuckerberg said that Meta AI is on track to become the most used “virtual assistant” in the world. He revealed that the application has nearly 500 million monthly active users and has not yet launched in some major markets, including the European Union (EU).
Billionaire Zuckerberg isn't the only tech mogul to see a big increase in his wealth this year.
Billionaire Jensen Huang, CEO of semiconductor (chip) maker Nvidia, and Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle Corporation, have seen their net worths soar, by $62.2 billion and $58.6 billion, respectively, since the beginning of the year.
