Ms. Harris declares defeat, promises peaceful transfer of power
At exactly 4:15 a.m. on November 7 (Vietnam time), US Vice President Kamala Harris began her first public speech after the 2024 US election was decided.
Speaking at Howard University (Washington DC), Ms. Harris admitted losing to Mr. Donald Trump in the race to the White House.
“The outcome of this election is not the outcome we wanted, not the outcome we fought for,” she said. “I know people are going through a lot of different emotions. I understand that. But we have to accept the outcome of the election.
I called President-elect (Donald) Trump earlier today and congratulated him on his victory. I also said we will assist him and his team in their transition. We will have a peaceful transfer of power.
A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we must accept the results.”
Shortly before Ms Harris began speaking, Mr Steven Cheung – the head of Mr Trump’s campaign – confirmed that the US vice president had called to congratulate the new president-elect.
Mr. Cheung said the call was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. “President Trump recognized Ms. Harris’s strength, professionalism and determination throughout the campaign. The two leaders agreed on the importance of uniting the country,” Mr. Cheung affirmed.

According to the New York Times, on the afternoon of November 6 (local time), US President Joe Biden called Vice President Kamala Harris and newly elected President Donald Trump.
The White House said Mr Biden congratulated Ms Harris on her “historic campaign”, while he congratulated Mr Trump on winning a second term.
“President Biden expressed his commitment to a smooth transition of power and emphasized the importance of uniting the country,” the White House said in a statement.
In addition, Mr. Biden also invited Mr. Trump to meet him at the White House and the two sides' teams are planning this meeting. This is the practice of previous US presidents (except Mr. Trump) before leaving office.
The US President is expected to speak publicly on November 7 to talk about the election results and the transition of power.
The US House of Representatives is still undecided.

According to the New York Times, as of 5:30 a.m. on November 7 (Vietnam time), no party has yet won a majority of seats in the US House of Representatives. The Republican Party is temporarily leading with 204 seats, while the Democratic Party still hopes to turn the situation around with 186 seats.
There are still 45 seats unfilled. Whichever party wins at least 218 seats will control the House of Representatives, which is currently controlled by the Republicans.
House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed confidence that Republicans “will retain their majority” in the House when the vote count is complete.
The 2024 US election results are leaning heavily towards the Republican Party. Mr. Trump won a resounding victory in the race to the White House, while the party also soon won a majority in the Senate.
If Republicans retain the House, they will once again achieve a trifecta – holding the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives. This will make it easier for Trump and the Republicans to pass their agenda.
Faced with that prospect, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries declared the House race “still has a lot of action.”
“In a challenging election environment, House Democrats are once again fighting back against political obstruction,” Jeffries said.
The path to regaining the majority now depends on narrow windows in Arizona, Oregon and Iowa – along with some Democratic-leaning areas in Southern California and the Central Valley.”
Wall Street in green welcomes Mr. Trump
At the end of the trading session on November 6, Wall Street was filled with green after the news of Mr. Trump's victory in the presidential election. The Dow Jones index had its highest daily increase in the past two years, up to 1,500 points (more than 3.5%). This number reflects the excitement and bets of investors on sectors that can benefit when Mr. Trump returns to the White House.
The S&P 500 also rose 2.6%, while the Nasdaq rose 3%. The Russell 2000 also rose more than 4%.
