Chinese cars flock to Vietnam

According to the latest analysis of the General Department of Customs on the situation of imported complete cars, in August, 15,061 cars with a total value of 299 million USD completed customs procedures for import into Vietnam.

The difference compared to previous years is that Vietnam's car import market has China. Accordingly, cars originating from Thailand are 6,384 units; from Indonesia are 5,770 units and Chinese cars are 2,443 units.

The number of imported cars from these three markets reached 14,597 units, accounting for 97% of the total number of imported cars into Vietnam.

Of which, there are 12,776 cars with less than 9 seats, accounting for 84.8% of the imported cars of all kinds into Vietnam.

It is worth mentioning that the imported cars with 9 seats or less are mainly from Indonesia, with 5,768 cars; from Thailand, 5,353 cars. Chinese cars are 1,223 cars.

In total, the number of completely built-up cars with 9 seats or less imported from Thailand, Indonesia and China reached 12,334 units, accounting for 97% of the total number of these types of cars imported into Vietnam.

As for cars with more than 9 seats, according to the General Department of Customs, in August, the number of imported cars was 18 and all were from China.

Specialized cars imported in August were 916 units, of which 833 were from China.

For trucks, there were 369 Chinese cars out of a total of 1,351 imported in August.

Thus, in the first 8 months of the year, the whole country imported 106,627 cars, of which 19,649 were Chinese cars with a total expenditure of 581.9 million USD (equivalent to 14,555 billion VND).

Meanwhile, in 2023, the number of Chinese cars imported was 11,002 units with an import value of 394.2 million USD (equivalent to 9,855 billion VND).

In 2022, the whole country spent 714.6 million USD (converted at the exchange rate equivalent to 17,865 billion VND) to import 17,333 Chinese cars.

Thus, in just 8 months, the number of imported Chinese cars has exceeded the total number of cars originating from this market in the entire year of 2022 and 2023.

Regarding auto parts and components, according to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in August the country spent 426 million USD to import auto parts and components of all kinds.

This group of goods has a very diverse origin but mainly comes from China with 129 million USD, and imports from the Korean market are 80.7 million USD; Thailand with 55.5 million USD; Japan with 45.3 million USD; India with 42.3 million USD; from Indonesia with 35.4 million USD...
