Many artists and art lovers came to the exhibition "Homeland" which officially opened on the afternoon of October 20 at Maii Art Space (72/7 Tran Quoc Toan, Ward 8, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) and lasted until October 30.
The exhibition spreads the spirit of simplicity that is the nature of People's Artist Tra Giang and also the best and most sincere things through her perspective on life, nature, and people through the exhibition with the theme "Homeland".
Many viewers were moved when they saw the exhibition and watched the documentary "The River of Memories" (directed by Nguyen Thuoc), the latest documentary about People's Artist Tra Giang. The film was also screened at the 14th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival in Ho Chi Minh City.
Many artists came to congratulate the exhibition of People's Artist Tra Giang.
The exchange space left a deep impression when pianist Bich Tra - the only daughter of People's Artist Tra Giang - also came from abroad to attend the opening of her mother's exhibition. Bich Tra confided how her mother first learned to draw, then shared her first thoughts about putting her faith and love into her paintings.
On this occasion, artist Bich Tra will join the performance of Tchaikovsky and Beethoven Music Night, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera at 8:00 p.m. on October 26 and 27, at the City Theater.
Visitors enjoy the paintings of People's Artist Tra Giang
People's Artist Kim Cuong, who attended the exhibition, commented that the main theme of the exhibition shows that People's Artist Tra Giang's soul is always flowers and landscapes of Vietnam. "Tra Giang loves nature, and also loves poetry, so her poetic soul is mixed in her paintings. The language of nature in her paintings brings peace to viewers" - People's Artist Kim Cuong shared.
For screenwriter Duong Cam Thuy - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations - President of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association, People's Artist Tra Giang's paintings are diverse in perspective, which also means rich in expressive nuances. "At the age of 82, this could be the last solo exhibition of People's Artist Tra Giang due to her health and age. I really admire her spirit. 25 oil paintings of various sizes, carefully selected from her latest creations, show that she is very careful in announcing her brainchildren and continuing to do charity work" - Ms. Duong Cam Thuy shared.
A warm exchange of artists at the exhibition of People's Artist Tra Giang
People's Artist Tra Giang started painting around the beginning of 1999, it was a coincidence but also a fateful occasion, at the end of 1999, when her husband - Professor Nguyen Bich Ngoc - passed away. She put all her faith and love into painting and considered it a space for her to rest her spirit after such a great loss.
This is her fourth solo exhibition after Summer (2006), Spring (2016), Passing through the Northwest (2018).
At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City expressed her thoughts on the painting by People's Artist Tra Giang:
"She is modest and never calls herself an artist, but the art world has recognized her as an artist for a long time. Her paintings contain beautiful moments of life, of the places she has been to and encountered in all regions of the country. Her artistic spirit is admirable and is an example for the next generation of young artists."
Dr. Ma Thanh Cao, former director of the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, commented that Tra Giang is an artist who is diligent in researching, studying, reading and watching a lot, and more importantly, has a great passion for painting landscapes and improving her techniques to make her strokes light and airy.
In this exhibition, People's Artist Tra Giang donated a painting to Maii Art Space for auction to support charity activities. "When Typhoon Yagi hit and devastated the northern provinces, I urged the auction of the painting to take place sooner. I am glad that my oil painting "Country Soul" was auctioned for 151 million VND to support the people of the North to overcome the consequences of storms and floods and rebuild their lives" - People's Artist Tra Giang happily confided.
