This morning (August 15), the Ministry of Education and Training coordinated with the Vietnam Education Trade Union to organize the event "Minister of Education and Training meets with teachers, managers, and staff of the education sector".
The event was held online so that all teachers, managers, and employees of the education sector nationwide could attend. The main bridge was located at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Training, connecting with provinces and cities through 63 bridges of the Departments of Education and Training and more than 400 bridges of universities and colleges.
This is an opportunity for teachers, managers, and employees in the education sector to express their thoughts, aspirations, advantages, and difficulties in their work. This is also an opportunity for the Minister to listen to opinions to serve the management, operation, and policy improvement; to encourage and share with the team of teachers, managers, and employees working in the sector.
Reunion of more than 1 million members in the educational "house"
In his opening speech, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that this was a reunion of more than 1 million members of the education "house". He was very nervous because he had never done this before.
Minister Nguyen Kim Son shared: “Personally, I am very nervous, and also a bit nervous, because I have never done this before. Standing in front of 100 people, 1,000 people is already stressful, let alone talking to nearly a million people, but I will try my best.
Some people advised me not to organize this event because how can I answer everyone? What if I don't answer everyone and everyone changes from excited anticipation to disappointment? What if I say something wrong? Anything can happen. But if you want to do something, you have to do it and don't think too much.
The Minister said: "The Education and Training sector is carrying out very large and very difficult tasks, some tasks are as difficult as moving mountains and filling seas. To do difficult tasks, we must work together, the more difficult and bigger the task, the more we need to work together, if millions of people look in the same direction, no matter how difficult or big the task, we can do it."
Want to review policies for teachers
The Ministry of Education and Training said it has received more than 6,500 opinions from preschool, general education, continuing education, specialized education, pedagogical colleges and universities.
For preschool education, general education, and continuing education, opinions focused on major groups of issues such as: Implementation of the 2018 General Education Program (teaching integrated subjects, arranging teachers, organizing competitions in schools, etc.); Teacher policies (salaries, allowances, retirement age of preschool teachers, etc.); Working conditions of teachers (schools, facilities, teaching equipment, computer systems, public housing, etc.).
Synthesizing teachers' opinions, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc An, Chairman of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, said that through reviewing preschool and general education, there are some common problems.
In the group of contents reflecting on regimes and policies, there are many opinions wishing the Minister to consider the regime and policies for teachers in general to ensure their lives, especially those working in remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas. Some opinions are interested in salaries after completing university training, salary classification according to job position...

Opinions say that teachers' current salaries are still low compared to the living standards of the whole society, leading to many teachers having to spend time working extra hours outside of class. This limits their time for self-study and self-improvement in professional skills. At the same time, low salaries, not enough to cover living expenses, are one of the reasons why many teachers want to quit their jobs and have quit their jobs to go in other directions.
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc An affirmed that in reality, many teachers who stay in the profession are also having to do many other jobs to ensure their lives. Therefore, if the State does not have timely support policies, the number of teachers who quit their jobs in the coming time may increase. Teachers all want solutions to help increase their income so that they can wholeheartedly devote themselves to teaching.
The representative of the Ministry of Education and Training said that these opinions and information collected from the event are an important basis for the Ministry to continue to perfect policies and regimes, and synchronously deploy management and leadership solutions suitable to reality. Thereby, developing the team of teachers, managers, and employees in the education sector, ensuring the conditions for the team to implement the tasks of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training.
