Canh Dia village, Son Hai commune has 15 households growing Dien and Muc grapefruit on an area of 3.9 hectares. However, in recent years, the quality of the grapefruit when harvested has not been guaranteed, and the selling price on the market has been low. In this situation, the Farmers' Association of Canh Dia village has promoted and mobilized people to convert the ineffective Muc and Dien grapefruit areas to green-skin grapefruit. Up to now, Canh Dia has become the village with the largest green-skin grapefruit area and brought the highest efficiency in the commune.

Mr. Do Van Hiep (Canh Dia village) said: My family currently has about 200 green-skinned grapefruit trees. After converting from Muc grapefruit trees to green-skinned grapefruit trees, the germination rate reached 98%. Thanks to suitable soil conditions and proper care, the green-skinned grapefruit trees grow well, are resistant to pests and diseases, and have large, juicy fruits. Currently, each green-skinned grapefruit tree of the family yields about 30 fruits, with the market price from 30,000 VND/fruit or more. Each year, after deducting expenses, the family's green-skinned grapefruit garden brings in a revenue of more than 150 million VND.

In 2023, Mr. Le Manh Cuong (An Tien village) boldly converted 3 hectares of ineffective agricultural land to grow kumquat trees for fruit. After 2 years of planting and caring, the kumquat garden grew well, with trees up to 3 m high, bringing in a good income for the family.
Currently, each year, Mr. Cuong's kumquat garden produces two harvests, each lasting two months. With a selling price ranging from 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, after deducting all expenses, Mr. Cuong earns a profit of more than 50 million VND per harvest. Thus, each year Mr. Cuong's family earns more than 100 million VND from the model of growing kumquat trees for fruit.

Not stopping at small-scale production, Mr. Cuong also learned how to graft and propagate to expand the scale of the kumquat orchard. In addition to growing kumquat for fruit, Mr. Cuong also processes kumquat products such as kumquat jam, kumquat syrup, etc. to supply the market. Mr. Le Manh Cuong said: At first, because I did not understand the care techniques and how to prevent pests and diseases, I encountered many difficulties. Since 2024, when participating in training courses organized by agricultural extension agencies and farmers' associations at all levels, I have gained more experience in caring for kumquat for fruit.

Through the movement of farmers competing in production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty, Son Hai commune has seen the emergence of many new models and methods that bring high economic efficiency. Typical examples include Mr. Dao Nguyen Vinh's household (Soi Chat village) with the model of growing royal bananas; Mr. Pham Minh Quyen (An Tien village) with the model of raising caged fish and raising free-range chickens in large numbers; Mr. Do Van Nghiep (Canh Dia village) with the model of grafting green-skinned grapefruit; Mr. Le Manh Cuong (An Tien village) with the model of growing kumquats for fruit...
In order for the movement to go deeper and bring about effectiveness, the Commune People's Committee has actively promoted and mobilized farmer members to participate in the movement "Developing production to increase income for people", arousing the will to get rich, promoting potentials and strengths to create a breakthrough in economic development, increasing income for each member. The Commune Farmers' Association also coordinated with functional departments to open training courses to transfer scientific and technical advances to farmers; build many agricultural economic development models; mobilize farmer members to convert crops and livestock, invest in a focused manner, suitable to the reality of the household, at the same time, create conditions for members to access loans to develop and replicate production and livestock models...

Mr. Nguyen Van Duy, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Hai Commune, said: In the coming time, the Farmers' Association of the commune will continue to innovate the content and methods of operation, improve the quality of activities of the branches; promote the effective implementation of the movement of farmers competing in good production and business; mobilize cadres and farmer members to actively participate in building rural infrastructure. Thereby, contributing to the Party Committee and local authorities to improve the quality of the criteria for advanced new rural communes.
