The scientific name of the Moon Bear is Ursus thibetanus, a species belonging to group IB - a group of endangered, rare wild animals, strictly prohibited from exploitation and use.

It is known that these two bears were discovered by Mr. Ly A Gio in Huoi Ban village, Muong Nhe commune, Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province while grazing cattle in an area near the local protective forest. These are two male bears, about 2 months old, weighing 2.5 kg and 2.7 kg.

After discovering the two bears, Mr. Ly A Gio reported to the local authorities and voluntarily submitted an application to donate the two bears to Hoang Lien Tourism and Wildlife Conservation Center for scientific care, restoration of the species' natural habits, and release into the natural environment.
