Working on nearly 4 sao of rice fields, after harvesting spring rice, Ms. Hoang Thi Hue in Tao Son commune (Anh Son) rented a machine to prepare the land and sow rice seedlings to prepare for the summer-autumn crop. According to Ms. Hue's calculations, on average, each sao of rice needs about 8 kg of urea, 12 kg of NPK 16.16.8 synthetic phosphate, 10 kg of 15.5.20 synthetic phosphate and 5 kg of potassium. At the beginning of the summer-autumn crop, the price of urea decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, while NPK and potassium increased slightly, so she could not help but worry.

Ms. Hue said: “For each sao of rice, the cost of fertilizer at the time of high prices was up to 500,000 VND/sao. Now that the planting season is about to begin, the price of urea has decreased but the price of potassium and synthetic phosphate has increased slightly. I just hope that the price will stabilize to reduce input costs.”

Particularly for households that farm a lot and produce rice for sale like Mr. Phan Xuan Toan's family in village 5, Nam Giang commune (Nam Dan), fertilizer prices have a big impact on profits.

“Cultivating 3 hectares of rice fields, each crop costs nearly 15 million VND in fertilizer. Now the price of nitrogen is decreasing, the price of NPK and potassium is showing signs of increasing, so I plan to buy and store it to fertilize this summer-autumn crop, in case demand increases, the market price will increase.”

"First water, second fertilizer, third diligence, fourth seeds", in agricultural production, fertilizer is an important factor, so to cultivate effectively and productively, we must invest in phosphate fertilizer for crops.

Preparing to start the summer-autumn rice crop, the price of urea has dropped sharply, but the prices of some other types are increasing slightly. Records at distributors and agricultural supply stores in Nghe An show that in recent days, the prices of many types of fertilizers have continued to increase slightly.

Ms. Nguyen Mo - owner of an agricultural supplies store in Nam Dan district said: "The price of fertilizer has decreased compared to 2 months ago. The current price of Urea fertilizer is 11,000 VND/kg of Phu My Ca Mau Urea, NPK phosphate, and potassium have shown signs of a slight increase. Accordingly, the price of NPK phosphate is 6,000 VND/kg (an increase of 400 VND/kg) and potassium is 12,000 VND/kg (an increase of 800 VND/kg)".

At this time, farmers begin to sow seeds for the summer-autumn crop. Fertilizer stores are focusing on importing goods to supply to people.

According to his long-term experience in fertilizer business, Mr. Thai Viet Hai - a fertilizer trader in Dai Son commune (Do Luong) said: "Usually, when the season comes, the demand for fertilizer increases, so it is very likely that fertilizer prices will increase locally. Therefore, many households with large areas of cultivated land have proactively bought fertilizer in advance to avoid price increases when the season comes."

Besides, while the price of some inorganic fertilizers increased, the price of organic fertilizers remained stable, unchanged since the beginning of the year. Accordingly, 1 bag is about 270,000 VND/25 kg, with an organic content of about 75%.

Therefore, some farmers increase the purchase of organic fertilizers for production to reduce costs. At the same time, they take advantage of straw, animal manure and agricultural waste and by-products to make organic fertilizer for crops.

Mr. Ho Dinh Thang - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nam Dan district said: "Nowadays, people's agricultural production habits are having positive changes. Accordingly, people have known how to take advantage of agricultural by-products to compost organic microbial fertilizers, increase green manure, manure and limit the use of inorganic fertilizers. On the one hand, it saves about 30% of fertilizer costs, on the other hand, it helps improve the soil".

According to forecasts, domestic urea prices in 2024 may decrease slightly by about 3-5% compared to 2023, other fertilizers will decrease by 5-8% and follow the world fertilizer trend. Fertilizer is an indispensable commodity in agricultural production, therefore, farmers hope that the authorities will pay attention to market stabilization and create conditions for farmers to access quality fertilizer products at reasonable prices.

At the same time, strengthen inspection, promptly detect and strictly handle cases of unreasonable price increases, as well as trading in fake and poor quality fertilizers.
