On March 24, the Farmers' Association of Gia Lai province held a workshop to summarize the project "Propaganda and mobilization of farmers to treat waste in Vietnam, contributing to the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions".

The workshop was attended by leaders of the Provincial Farmers' Association, Project Management Board, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and officials of the local Farmers' Associations.

The project will be implemented from 2022 in 9 communes in 3 districts of Gia Lai province, focusing on 5 technical solutions for environmentally friendly organic waste treatment. Specifically, farmers are instructed to ferment crop by-products for animal feed, compost organic fertilizers in the fields, treat stubble with Trichoderma, raise chickens on thick biological bedding, and raise calcium worms and earthworms.

After 3 years, the Project has organized 41 training courses with 1,234 members, supporting the construction of 540 environmentally friendly waste treatment models. These models not only help reduce pollution but also bring significant economic efficiency to farmers.

Attending the workshop, delegates shared and discussed experiences, advantages, difficulties, and proposed solutions to expand the project in the future.

Mr. Hoang Thanh Van, Head of the Farmers' Association of Residential Group 2, Doan Ket Ward, Ayun Pa Town, Gia Lai Province, shared: "Thanks to the Project "Propaganda and Mobilization of Farmers to Treat Waste in Vietnam", I have applied the technique of raising black soldier flies, utilizing agricultural waste as food for them.

After only 35 days, I had a source of calcium worms to feed my chickens, which significantly reduced my monthly expenses. In addition, using calcium worms to fertilize 500 ornamental peach trees helped increase farming efficiency.

However, at first, the flies laid eggs haphazardly and were difficult to harvest. After being trained, I used plastic trays provided by the Project and harvested eggs more effectively."

Currently, Mr. Van is guiding many farmer members to replicate this model, contributing to reducing livestock costs, utilizing waste sources and protecting the environment.

The workshop was chaired by Mr. Vo Tuan Anh, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial Farmers' Association (right cover) and Mr. Y Kham, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial Farmers' Association (left cover) .

Ms. Pham Thanh Nhan, President of the Farmers’ Association of Ia Ke Commune, Phu Thien District, emphasized that the success of organic waste treatment lies not only in the application of technical models, but more importantly, in changing people’s awareness. The proactive participation of the community, along with the exemplary pioneering of the association’s officials, is the decisive factor in the sustainability of environmental protection solutions in agriculture.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Mr. Doan Ngoc Co, affirmed that the waste treatment project not only helps develop the economy and society but also contributes to protecting the environment in a sustainable way. This is not only a solution to the current pollution problem but also a strategic step for the future.

Mr. Doan Ngoc Co, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment spoke at the Workshop.

Evaluating technical solutions for organic waste treatment, Mr. Co emphasized: "This project is a typical circular agricultural model, contributing to reducing environmental pollution and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions."

With a modern approach and long-term solutions, the project is expected to open up a new direction in waste treatment, creating momentum for green and sustainable economic development.
