It is undeniable that famous artists appearing in a film project will help filmmakers sell tickets more easily, but their presence in a series of consecutive films creates the opposite effect.

In theaters To be meet someone
Vietnamese cinema has dozens of films released in theaters every year, but not many of them have good revenue. Many large investment projects have suffered heavy losses of up to tens of billions of dong. Therefore, inviting "ticket-selling" stars seems to be an effective way to attract the attention of the audience, creating a better media effect.
That is the reason why recently, a series of films have “rehashed” actors who are too familiar to the audience. For example, the film “The Bride of the Rich” continues to “use” the couple Le Giang - Uyen An as mother and daughter. Before that, this couple also played mother and daughter in the film “Mrs. Nu’s House” by Tran Thanh, this film achieved impressive box office results.
Actress Le Giang has had 3 roles in movies this year: “Gap lai chi bau”, “Lam giau voi ma”, “Co dau hai mon”. Le Giang herself admits that she is afraid that the audience will get bored when she appears too much on the big screen, so she hesitates when accepting new movies.
People's Artist Hong Van is also a familiar face on the big screen when participating in the movie "Hai Muoi", followed by "Co dau hoa mon". Not only veteran actors, but also rising young stars like Tuan Tran have appeared frequently on the big screen. Since the beginning of the year, he has played the main role in 3 movies: "Mai", "Mong cua", "Lam gia voi ma".
Uyen An has a role in “The Bride of a Rich Family” - also her second role this year. Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Uyen An said that before, she acted in a film directed by her brother Tran Thanh. In this comeback, the actress collaborated with Vu Ngoc Dang and hopes to have new directions for herself.
Exes don't always work.
Taking advantage of familiar faces to the big screen audience inherently helps to guarantee the box office, attracting more attention from the audience. For example, Le Giang participated in 2 films with good revenue: "Gap lai chi bau" (Meeting again with the boss) which earned nearly 93 billion VND in revenue, "Getting rich with ghosts" which earned more than 127 billion VND.
However, there are also many actors who are too familiar with the industry and whose repeated roles do not create a good effect on the audience. Among them, Tuan Tran failed with “Claws” when his project only earned about 4 billion VND.
The filmmaker Boldly seeking out “new winds” with new faces sometimes has “unexpectedly good” results. Among them, producers and directors who diligently seek out new faces such as Ly Hai, Victor Vu or Charlie Nguyen have had many great successes.
Typically, Ly Hai, in addition to the veteran names participating in his project “Lat mat”, often casts young actors who are not yet well-known on the big screen. However, many of them took advantage of the opportunity and emerged as promising stars. Among them is Ta Lam. Thanks to her charming acting, she has conquered the audience despite her lack of fame or acting experience on the big screen.
The contribution of famous stars cannot be denied, they still have appeal even though they are familiar faces on the big screen. However, if overused, repeating old roles, it can easily have the opposite effect, making the audience bored.
For many years, Vietnamese cinema has been lacking in talented actors with great potential for development. Therefore, reusing familiar faces seems to be a safe choice for filmmakers.
However, it is time for Vietnamese cinema to step out of this comfort zone and boldly exploit and seek new, more potential faces to create good resources for Vietnamese cinema as well as bring the audience "new winds".
