'Three hard' shelters for the poor

In recent years, the work of supporting the construction of houses for the poor and people in difficult circumstances has been one of the important social security policies that the Party Committee and the government of Phu Binh district have paid attention to implementing. Thereby, it has helped many disadvantaged families have the opportunity to own a solid house, ensuring "3 hard".

The solid houses completed and put into use not only provide shelter from the rain and sun, but also motivate the poor to improve their lives.

In the new house inaugurated at the end of December 2024, Mrs. Tran Thi Chien, Vu Chan hamlet, Thuong Dinh commune, could not hide her joy because her dream of having a solid house had come true. Previously, Mrs. Chien's family lived in a temporary, cramped house with an area of about 15 square meters, with many cracks on the walls and a degraded roof that was no longer strong enough to protect against rain and sun.

A solid house has been the wish of Mrs. Chien’s family for many years. However, because she is old, in poor health, and her son does not have a stable job, the family does not have enough money to rebuild the house.

Happiness came to Mrs. Chien's family when the District Fatherland Front Committee approved support to build a new house. With a total cost of about 200 million VND, the house was completed to meet the "3 hard" standards.

In addition to the support from the District Fatherland Front Committee (50 million VND) and the Commune People's Committee (2 million VND), her family borrowed more from relatives and received help with labor from neighbors during the construction process. Now, Ms. Chien's family has a solid home to stabilize their lives.

Like Ms. Tran Thi Chien, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, in Dong Vy hamlet, Ban Dat commune, is also happy because her previously dilapidated house has been repaired to ensure "3 hard" standards.

Although she is nearly 70 years old, Mrs. Lan is still the main breadwinner in her family. Every day, she has to work for hire to support her husband who has a stroke and her two young children. After screening, Mrs. Lan's household is eligible for support to repair houses under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. With the district's support of 30 million VND and her family's counterpart capital, Mrs. Lan has re-roofed and plastered the walls.

Ms. Lan shared: Before, on sunny days it was fine, but on rainy days it leaked a lot, so I always wished to have money to repair the house. That is why, when I received support to repair the house, I was very excited and grateful to the Party and the authorities at all levels. Until now, I am still overwhelmed because my wish has come true.

These are just two of many poor and near-poor households that have been supported to build new and repair houses in the district. Each house that has been completed and handed over is truly a warm home filled with solidarity, helping families gradually settle down, build a prosperous and happy life, and contribute to the stability and development of the locality.

Behind each brick, each square meter of newly built or repaired wall is a beautiful story about the spirit of mutual love, sharing and solidarity of the whole community. In order to have spacious homes for the poor, every year, following the direction of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee and the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels in the district have coordinated to organize "Peak Month for the Poor", "Peak Week of Tet for the Poor" to call for and mobilize resources to care for and help the poor, including helping the poor settle down and stabilize their lives.

In addition to peak periods, the District Party Committee, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front also mobilized businesses and organizations to support the construction of houses for poor households in the area. For example, in 2024, in order to join hands in implementing the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in Phu Binh district, the Provincial Women Entrepreneurs Association supported 200 million VND; the District Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development supported 60 million VND; the Provincial Business Association supported 50 million VND;

In addition to the activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, socio-political organizations in the district also take advantage of resources from higher levels and proactively mobilize resources in society to build houses for members, poor union members, and households in difficult circumstances. Models such as "Union Shelter" of the Labor Federation, "House of Gratitude" of the Red Cross, "Shelter of Love" of the Women's Union... have become a bridge between kind hearts and families in difficult circumstances in the locality.

Not only financial support, the poor households' shelters also receive contributions and labor from many local people. Those with construction experience guide and carry out the stages of digging foundations, building walls, roofing and other important techniques, ensuring the house is sturdy and safe. Those without construction experience support the transportation of materials, cleaning, moving household items; arranging furniture... These practical actions not only bring solid shelters to poor families but also spread kindness, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and mutual love in the community.

3-hard shelters for the poor

With the joint efforts of the whole society, the dream of a "3-hard" warm home for many poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households is no longer far away. Solid houses are built and repaired to help people stay confident in the face of natural disasters and difficulties. And so, the journey to bring happy warm homes continues to spread...
