Many useful tips were given by university representatives in the online consultation program "Floor scores and candidates' choices" organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper on the afternoon of July 25.
The program is broadcast live at thanhnien.vn, Facebook fanpage, YouTube channel, and TikTok of Thanh Nien Newspaper.
DO N'T WAIT UNTIL THE "90TH MINUTE" TO REGISTER
Dr. Nguyen Van Kha, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said: "According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, although the admission system was opened from July 10, it is surprising that only 40% of candidates have registered their wishes. This shows that many candidates are waiting until the last days to decide. Please note that if you wait until the "90th minute" to register, if there is any problem and you cannot adjust it in time, it is easy to lose your opportunity. You need to immediately go to the system to perform the operations because there is not much time left."
Master Truong Quang Tri, Master Pham Doan Nguyen, Doctor Vo Thanh Hai (from right to left) provide much necessary information to candidates during the online session.
Master Pham Doan Nguyen, Vice Principal of the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City, also said that at this point, TS has enough basis to make a decision. "If any of you have registered, please check and review again to see if there are any errors. For those who have not registered, you should do it immediately to avoid the situation where everything is concentrated in the last few days, the network can easily have problems," Master Nguyen emphasized.
Master Truong Quang Tri, Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, advised: "When adjusting or registering, candidates should not put too many NV but also not too few to avoid risks, should only add 3-4 NV. And an important step is to pay the admission fee for the results to be recognized."
In the case that the admission process is about to end and the candidate still does not know what to choose, according to Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, first of all, you should choose a major and a group of majors, then make a list of schools that offer that major, see which school your score and family circumstances are suitable for, then put the school you like best on NV 1. "You absolutely should not choose because you like a certain school so you choose the majors of that school to register. This leads to the consequence of being admitted but not liking it, not being suitable for the major, it will be very easy to drop out after 1-2 years of study", Dr. Hai commented.
Master Pham Doan Nguyen also said that if you are still hesitant, you should choose majors within a group of majors. "One major can do many jobs because the training programs of schools are built on an interdisciplinary basis. Therefore, you should not insist on choosing only one major without having additional backup plans in related majors with lower standard scores," Master Nguyen advised.
July 30 is the deadline for candidates to register their admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission support system.
WHAT SCORE IS EASY TO PASS?
Regarding questions related to the floor score and the benchmark score, and at what score level should NV be adjusted, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai noted: "If your exam score is lower than the floor score of the major you want to apply for, you must definitely adjust NV to another major. You should register for majors close to the major you want. If your score is equal to the floor score, then boldly register for NV 1 even though the chance of admission is low, but who knows, this year that major may have a benchmark score equal to the floor score. However, you need to have a backup plan to register for some other majors that are close to the floor score. If your exam score is 2-3 points higher than the floor score, your chance of admission is very high."
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Kha, each school has different strengths in different fields and usually the strong fields will have a higher admission score than the floor score. "For example, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, the food technology group has the highest admission score, followed by the economics group. Referring to the school's admission scores in previous years, the strong fields often have scores 2 - 3 - 4 points higher than the floor score, while other fields are equal to or only 1 point higher than the floor score. To be safe, candidates should choose a field with a floor score lower than the exam score. If the exam score is equal to or 1 - 2 points higher than the floor score, they should not choose the hot field of the school," Dr. Kha said.
WAITING FOR ADDITIONAL RECRUITMENT WILL HAVE MANY RISKS
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai continued to state the situation that in previous years, there were many PhDs who were determined to study only one major at 1-2 schools they liked, so they only registered for 1-2 NV and thought that if they did not pass, there would be an additional round of admission.
"Not all schools have additional admissions because most of them have filled their quotas right from the first round. Therefore, in this round of admissions, students should register for many NVs in order of NV 1 being their favorite major and then the next priorities. If unfortunately the first 3-4 favorite majors are not accepted and NV 5 is accepted, if you do not like it, you can still decide not to enroll and find a school that still has additional admissions to register for the major you want. Or you can still enroll in that 5th NV. On the contrary, if you do not register for NV from the beginning, you will lose your chance of being admitted," Dr. Hai shared.
According to experts, "hot" majors usually do not consider additional recruitment. If a major does consider additional recruitment, the standard score is usually higher than the first round. Therefore, candidates need to make smart choices to be able to be admitted in this first round of recruitment.
"Please note that if you wait until the "90th minute" to register and encounter any problems that you cannot adjust in time, it is very easy to lose the opportunity."
Dr. Nguyen Van Kha (Deputy Director of Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade)
"TS need to learn carefully about the admission technique so that when registering, they must perform each step accurately to avoid mistakes. This is the most suitable time to register, July 28 - 29 - 30 is just for reviewing because according to experience every year, the last time to register is very likely to be congested, unable to log in."
