Asking the experts, a 12th grade male student at Ten Lo Man High School, worried about whether the university entrance score will increase or decrease this year, and whether studying English will allow him to teach or not?

Answering questions, Dr. Huynh Trung Phong, Director of the Center for Student Support and Startup Development - Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that the school cannot predict how the benchmark score will fluctuate, the score depends on the quality and quantity of students enrolling in the school, which changes every year.

"In recent years, the entrance scores for all majors have been quite high. To increase the chances of admission to the school, students can register for additional admission to the school's two branches. The entrance scores at the branches will be "softer" than in Ho Chi Minh City by 1.5 - 2.5 points" - Dr. Phong said.

According to Dr. Phong, those who major in English can still teach English, they just need to supplement their pedagogical skills or an international TESOL English teaching certificate. If they choose this path, students will have an advantage because the English language major has a standard score 1-2 points lower than English pedagogy.

Associate Professor - Dr. Bui Hoai Thang, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM, said that foreign language certificates are only considered as bonus points for candidates applying for a combination of subjects including English, not for direct admission.

"Bach Khoa University has a 100% English training program, requiring an IELTS certificate of 6.0 or higher. In addition, in the next school year, the school plans to have 5 more majors taught entirely in English such as microchips, renewable energy, etc.," Associate Professor Thang added.

The 17th "Right Career - Bright Future" admission program for the 2024-2025 school year is organized by Ho Chi Minh City Education Magazine, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Southern Center for Education and Training Development - Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with other units.
