VTC NewsVTC News01/12/2024

Smartwatch models are increasingly appearing on the wrists of users in Vietnam thanks to the popularity of many sports and fitness movements as well as the convenience in use. These modern models also regularly change design, types and give users many options to customize the interface to suit each lifestyle or emotion.

Traditional watches always have a place in the market because of their uniqueness.

The smart wearables segment (including smart watches, smart bracelets, etc.) in Vietnam has only developed in recent years, but its annual growth rate is considered much better than the average in Asia. According to a survey by Herbalife, 83% of Vietnamese respondents have changed their health priorities after the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing more on a healthy lifestyle, exercising, and looking for more comprehensive health protection and monitoring methods.

Despite their rapid growth, smartwatches have yet to completely replace traditional watches in everyday life. In fact, many people own a collection of traditional watches (usually mechanical) with great value, while only using 1 or 2 smartwatches, showing that using a device capable of tracking body index is only for certain needs.

Sharing the same perspective on the uses of the two current watch categories, Mr. Bui Tuan Minh - CEO of LPD luxury watch distribution company commented that young people are very fond of smartwatches, so it cannot be denied that this device has a significant impact on consumer trends, as well as the traditional watch market thanks to its convenience, fashion and multi-functionality. At the same time, many users still prefer to use traditional watches, and there is no clear departure to completely switch from one type to another.

"Users still love the simplicity of mechanical watches, traditional watches or the sophisticated craftsmanship that has existed for a long time in mechanical machines. Not only that, each different traditional watch will match different outfits, so customers can own many designs to suit different occasions, " Mr. Bui Tuan Minh shared with VTC News on the sidelines of the launch event of the special watch version Orient Vietnam Special Edition 2025 - Vietnamese Spirit, Japanese Essence held in Hanoi recently.

One of the factors that users love about traditional mechanical watches is the rarity of the special editions that also appear in the new collection. Specifically, the Orient Star model is limited to 304 (with the meaning of National Reunification Day, April 30) pieces worldwide, inspired by the milestone of April 30, 1975, with the model's serial number printed on the lid.

The remaining three Orient models in the collection (following the Classic Sun and Moon design) will produce 2,025 pieces, corresponding to the year 2025 - the 50th anniversary of National Reunification.
