The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that on September 10, the ultraviolet (UV) index in many cities across the country remained at a very high risk level (7.8 - 9.8), especially between 10am and 2pm.
To prevent the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays and heat shock, people working outdoors in the sun need to wear sunscreen. |
Specifically, from 10am to 2pm on September 10, the UV index in cities at very high risk levels included: Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) at 8.4, Hai Phong City 8.8, Hanoi Capital 8.7; Hue City (Thua Thien-Hue) 8.4; Da Nang City 7.3 and Hoi An City (Quang Nam) 9.1. Ho Chi Minh City 8.5, Can Tho City 8.2; Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa) alone was at the highest level of 9.8.
It is forecasted that from September 11 to 13, the maximum UV index in provinces and cities across the country will have little change, continuing at a very high harmful level. On September 13, the UV index in areas across the country is forecast to decrease to medium to high levels.
Due to the effects of heat combined with low humidity in residential areas due to increased electricity demand, there is a risk of explosions, fires and forest fires. In addition, heat can also cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke to the human body when exposed to high temperatures for a long time. People should note that the forecast temperature and the actual temperature felt outdoors can differ by 2-4 degrees Celsius, or even higher depending on the conditions of the surface such as concrete and asphalt.
On September 10, the heat index in Quy Nhon city (Binh Dinh) was at 41-54 (dangerous level), people are at risk of heatstroke, cramps or exhaustion when exposed or doing prolonged physical activities in the heat.
The heat index is divided into 5 levels: below 27 is safe, 27-32 is cautious, 32-41 is extremely cautious, 41-54 is dangerous, and above 54 is extremely dangerous.
According to many medical experts, ultraviolet rays are the main cause of skin darkening, freckles, aging... more seriously, exposure to sunlight with high UV index can also cause cataracts and skin cancer.
To prevent the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays and heat shock, people working outdoors in the sun need to wear sun protection gear such as protective clothing, hats, glasses, etc. Always ensure enough drinking water, fruits, and vegetables rich in vitamin C and vitamin A to improve resistance.
