In 2025, the competency assessment exam of teacher training colleges will have many new points to suit the first batch of students taking the graduation exam according to the 2018 general education program.
Change to suit the new program
Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 (Vinh Phuc) has announced a project to organize an independent entrance exam for admission in 2025. This is the third pedagogical university to have its own entrance exam, after Hanoi Pedagogical University and Ho Chi Minh City Pedagogical University.
The school organizes 8 subjects, including: Literature, Math, English, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography. The content of the exam closely follows the 2018 General Education Program (GEP), mainly for grade 12. The exam is expected to be held in June.
Regarding the reason for holding a separate exam, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 said that in recent years, the number of candidates applying for university admission to the school has increased dramatically. This reality requires the school to have a suitable admission plan to increase input quality, one of the important factors determining output quality.
After 3 years of organization, the Proficiency Test (SPT) of Hanoi National University of Education is recognized by many schools in admission.
In 2025, candidates can use the results of this exam to apply to more than 20 higher education institutions, an increase of 13 units compared to 2023. In addition to the pedagogical school block, there are also technical and medical schools that recognize and use the exam results.
Hanoi National University of Education said that the 2025 exam will have changes. According to Dr. Tran Ba Trinh - Head of Training Department, Hanoi National University of Education, the question formats of the basic competency assessment exam coincide with the questions of the high school graduation exam.
Therefore, students can review for both exams at the same time. This helps them avoid anxiety when reviewing for exams, reducing pressure. Students do not need extra classes or tutoring to do well on the exam.
The exam will take place on May 17 and 18, 2025. Registration is open from March 15 to April 15, 2025.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education also announced a change in the structure of the exam questions for subjects in the competency assessment exam organized by the school from 2025.
Accordingly, the exam will have 6 independent tests: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature and English. The exam will closely follow the 2018 general education program, with 12th grade knowledge accounting for about 70-80%, the rest is 10th and 11th grade knowledge. Students will do the test on the computer, each subject has 90 minutes.
The exam results are used by the school to recruit 40-50% of the admission quota. The school will organize 3 exam sessions in April, May, and July, with an estimated scale of more than 19,000 candidates.
Calculate carefully when choosing a school
It is noted that in this year's admission season, teacher training colleges tend to "tighten" the method of considering academic records and increase admission quotas from separate exams.
In addition to the 4 admission methods as last year, Hanoi Capital University plans to add 1 admission method in 2025 based on the capacity assessment results of Hanoi National University of Education.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Hong Cuong - Principal of Hanoi Capital University said that the school also plans to eliminate the method of considering high school transcripts for teacher training programs and change the method of considering admission based on international foreign language proficiency certificates to a method of considering admission combining foreign language certificates with a number of other criteria such as high school graduation exam results and high school academic results.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that in the 2024 enrollment season, among 24 fields with about 400 training majors, it is noteworthy that the education science and teacher training majors have a sharp increase in the rate of registration wishes, up 85% compared to 2023.
The attraction of the pedagogical industry has a great impact from the policy of supporting living expenses and tuition fees implemented according to Decree 116/2020/ND-CP regulating the policy of supporting tuition fees and living expenses for pedagogical students.
Meanwhile, the enrollment quota assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to teacher training colleges is not much. These are the two main reasons why the benchmark scores for this major are among the highest in recent enrollment seasons.
Given the attraction of the education sector in the past few admission seasons, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Hong Cuong noted that candidates need to consider and carefully calculate the school and major selection. High scores and few quotas make this a “brain-weighing” problem for families. Parents and teachers at high schools need to advise and guide students so that they can make the best choice.
