On September 13, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Long An province, said that entering the 2024-2025 school year, the entire education and training sector of Long An province has 17,719 teachers at all levels. Compared to the demand, the whole sector is short of about 1,169 teachers. The provincial education sector is recruiting teachers to meet the teaching needs of the locality.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai, recently, the department has also coordinated with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to actively implement training and recruitment of additional teachers for educational institutions in Long An province.
However, recruitment is currently very difficult due to the lack of teachers, the number of pedagogical graduates is very small. In addition, the situation of teachers quitting their jobs to move to other localities and the increase in mechanical population in some localities, especially localities with developed industry.
To overcome the shortage of teachers, in the 2023-2024 school year and the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, the Department will coordinate with local authorities to develop a teacher recruitment plan based on the assigned staffing, in order to recruit enough teachers to meet the teaching needs in their locality.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai said: “We have determined that we will not recruit once in a school year but must recruit many times, recruiting until there are enough teachers to serve the teaching needs. In addition, the way of recruiting teachers must also change. We have to go to training facilities to ask them to notify students to meet and inform them about the local teacher needs so that they know and register to participate in the recruitment process."
"After recruitment, if there are still not enough teachers, we will ask the relevant departments to review the teaching staff in the area, the retired teachers who are still healthy and have the passion to contribute to the education sector, and freelance teachers working in the area. We will assign these teachers to contract schools to supplement the teaching staff at educational institutions in the immediate future. In particular, we will place orders for teacher training to prepare a long-term source of teachers for the upcoming stages," said Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai.
In addition, the Long An provincial education sector is implementing training to upgrade teachers' qualifications. In the past, it has successfully upgraded many teachers from college to university and many teachers from intermediate to college and university. The 2024-2025 school year is the last year that the Long An provincial education sector will implement skills to upgrade teachers' qualifications. When the teacher qualification upgrade is completed, teachers in Long An province will meet the requirements for training standards according to regulations.
* In Tien Giang province, the provincial education sector is lacking about 900 teachers, mainly in preschool, primary school and social subjects, new subjects according to the 2018 General Education Program. The Department of Education and Training of Tien Giang province has issued an official dispatch requesting the People's Committees at district level in the area to review and proactively inform the needs of teachers at all levels and subjects of the locality to students of teacher training institutions, and organize teacher recruitment in multiple batches/year according to the graduation schedule of educational institutions.
In particular, Tien Giang province has a support policy, for newly recruited preschool teachers assigned to work in public preschools, they will be supported with 2,500,000 VND/person/month of actual teaching.
* In Vinh Long, the education sector of this province has actively implemented solutions to gradually reduce the local surplus/shortage of civil servants at all levels. However, in the 2023-2024 school year, the entire sector currently has a surplus of 68 teachers and a shortage of 264 teachers and staff.
Ms. Truong Thanh Nhuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long province, said that the provincial education sector will continue to arrange the staff to ensure the regulations on quantity standards; arrange and regulate teachers between educational institutions in the province to ensure reasonableness, overcome the situation of local surplus and shortage of teachers; implement teacher contracts according to regulations in case of not recruiting enough teachers. Continue to recruit additional staff lacking in the total number of staff allocated by competent authorities.
