On January 14, Hoa Binh Provincial Police said that Thong Nhat Ward Police (Hoa Binh City) had verified and returned more than 70 million VND that a conscripted police officer had picked up on the street.
Previously, at around 1:15 p.m. on January 13, Corporal Nguyen Tran Bao Chung (20 years old, a conscript of the Detention Camp Protection Police Team of Hoa Binh Provincial Police) after finishing his shift asked the unit commander for permission to go to notarize personal documents and diplomas.
While walking on Highway 6, Mr. Chung picked up a black leather wallet, inside was an ID card with the name Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy and a large stack of money.
Corporal Nguyen Tran Bao Chung reported the incident to the unit commander and brought the wallet and all the documents and assets inside back to the unit.
At the same time, notify Thong Nhat Ward Police to find and return the property to the owner.
Thong Nhat Ward police followed the address on the wallet owner's identification card, the detention center verified and found the wallet owner's phone number through the system and contacted Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy.
After checking, comparing and verifying that Ms. Thuy was the owner of the wallet, the police completed the return procedure.
Receiving her property back, Ms. Thuy counted the wallet and found that her personal documents were intact and the total amount was nearly 72 million VND.
Sharing after receiving her property back, she said that at noon on January 13, she went to withdraw money at the bank, and on the way to Thong Nhat ward, she lost her wallet. When she got home, she discovered that her wallet was missing.
“At that time, I thought it was lost and could not be found. Luckily, a police officer at the provincial police detention center found it and called to come and claim it,” she said.
Ms. Thuy also said that she is eight months pregnant. This is the money she saved and borrowed from relatives to use for the birth of her child. If she loses this money, she and her family will be in great difficulty because they have no other means of support.
Corporal Nguyen Tran Bao Chung said he felt this was a very normal thing that any police officer would do.
“This money is the sweat and effort of the owner. Therefore, the first thing I thought of when I found the wallet was to find a way to return it to the person who lost it,” said Bao Chung.
