Quang Tri currently has 203 Buddhist establishments recognized by the government with 239 monks and nuns, more than 65,000 Buddhists in 92 communes, wards and towns in 8 districts, towns and cities. With the tradition of "Protecting the nation and pacifying the people, accompanying the nation", in recent times, Quang Tri Buddhism has always accompanied the government and people in the cause of building the homeland, actively participating in the task of ensuring security and order, building the movement of the whole people to protect national security in the spirit of harmony and solidarity.
In 2017, Cam Lo District Police coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of the district to build the model "Cam Lo Buddhism participates in protecting national security and building new rural areas" at 10/10 pagodas in the district, marking the birth of the current model "Quang Tri Buddhism participates in protecting national security and building new rural areas". After 6 years of implementation, maintenance and expansion, this model has been developed at 34 operating points in 7 districts, towns and cities.
Through the model, it has contributed to building a close relationship between the Party Committee, the government, the police force and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha at all levels, between believers and non-believers. From there, it has built a great national unity bloc and a solid people's security posture at the grassroots level.
The model activities help monks, nuns and Buddhists improve their spirit and responsibility in social life, actively participate in social security activities, contribute to building cultural residential areas, new rural areas, and contribute to the successful implementation of socio-economic development goals, local defense and security.
