Colombia endured a disappointing first 20 minutes against Paraguay in their Copa America 2024 opener, but they then took advantage of their chances and won 2-1. Nestor Lorenzo's men scored twice from just three shots on target, putting them top of Group D and well on course to reach the round of 16 for the sixth consecutive time.
Colombia have won their last nine games in all competitions, seven of which have been by just one goal. But the team has shown remarkable efficiency. They defend well and score plenty of goals. In their last four games, Colombia have scored a total of 13 goals.
On the other side, Costa Rica received much praise for their 0-0 draw with Brazil. They were barely able to get close to their opponents' goal, but defended very solidly. Gustavo Alfaro's team became the third CONCACAF team to hold Brazil to a draw in this tournament, after Honduras (2001) and Mexico (2001 and 2007).
Los Ticos were lucky to get a point from this match. They will still have a slim hope of making it through the group stage, but Colombia have a very good and balanced squad. Stars in the attack like James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz will pose a big threat.
Another win would put Colombia into the quarter-finals, with a morale boost ahead of their final match against Brazil.
Head to head record
Costa Rica have lost nine of their 11 meetings with Colombia, with their win over Colombia in the 2016 Copa America coming more than 70 years after their first meeting in 1938.
Expected lineup

Costa Rica (4-3-3): Vargas; Munoz, Sanchez, Mina, Mojica; Rios, Lerma, Arias; Rodriguez, Borre, Diaz.
