Musician Lu Nhat Vu passed away

After a period of serious illness, despite the dedicated treatment of doctors and nurses at People's Hospital 115, due to old age and poor health, musician Lu Nhat Vu breathed his last at 9:30 a.m. on March 29, 2025, at the age of 89.

Musician Lu Nhat Vu's real name is Le Van Gat, born on April 13, 1936 in Thu Dau Mot town, Binh Duong province. He was a former member of the Secretariat of the Vietnam Musicians' Association, term III, Deputy General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association (1981), and former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts in Ho Chi Minh City.

In 1953, while standing in front of the grave of a guerrilla comrade, the young man Lu Nhat Vu wrote the poem "Grave of a Soldier" , then enthusiastically participated in the revolution and joined the Party in 1976.

After the Geneva Agreement (1954), Lu Nhat Vu gathered in the North to join the Youth Volunteers. Studying hard, practicing, and pursuing his passion for music, in 1962, he graduated from the Composition Department of the Vietnam Music School (now the Hanoi Conservatory of Music), then returned to work at the Southern Song and Dance Troupe.

In 1967, musician Lu Nhat Vu worked at the Department of Music and Dance, monitoring and directing the activities of the Viet Bac, Tay Bac, and Tay Nguyen People's Song and Dance Troupes. In 1970, he returned to the southern battlefield, working at the Liberation Arts Subcommittee, operating in the southwestern battlefield.

After the country's reunification, he returned to work at the Institute of Music Research (later the Institute of Culture and Arts in Ho Chi Minh City), continuing his positions as Head of the Music Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, Member of the Secretariat of the Vietnam Musicians Association, Deputy Secretary General of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association, and Party Committee member of the Ministry of Culture and Information's grassroots bloc.

He retired in 1997.

In his artistic activities, musician Lu Nhat Vu has composed many famous musical works such as Ben Tuong Bac Ho, Hay Tam Long Meo, Chieu Tren Ban Meo, Hang Em Mang To Chien Trench, Co Gai Gai Sai Gon Di Ammunition, Ben Tuong Bac Ho, Tieng Gong Quac Thac, Hon Khoai, Bai Ca Dat Phuong Nam, Khuc Song Nguoi Di Coi Tan , To Friend Algeria, Chiec Khan Ran, In Memory of Tran Van On ...

He has a series of massive research works on Southern folk songs published with a number of authors: Le Giang (his wife), Nguyen Dong Nai, Thach An, Nguyen Van Hoa, Quach Vu...

- Huynh Van Nghe Award, Binh Duong 2005

- Good book award, work: Liberation March

- Nguyen Thong Literature and Arts Award (5th time 2017)

- Many works won awards from the Vietnam Musicians Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association.

Musician Lu Nhat Vu was born on April 13, 1936, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on March 29, 2025, at the age of 89. The funeral will be held at 7:00 p.m. on March 29, 2025 (the 1st day of the 3rd lunar month). The funeral will be held at 7:30 p.m. on March 29 at the Ministry of National Defense Funeral Home, Southern Branch (5 Pham Ngu Lao Street, Ward 3, Go Vap District). The memorial service will be held at 5:30 a.m. on April 1 (the 4th day of the 3rd lunar month), then the body will be moved to Hoa Vien Binh Duong Cemetery (Ben Cat Town, Binh Duong Province).
