According to information from his family, writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong passed away peacefully on July 24. He was 87 years old.
The family of writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong will hold a memorial service for him and his wife, poet Lam Thi My Da (who passed away on July 6) in Hue from 2:00 p.m. on July 30 to July 31 at the Thua Thien - Hue Literature and Arts Association, Hue city.

Writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong was born in 1937, his hometown is Bich Khe village, Trieu Long commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri.
He graduated from the Vietnamese-Chinese department of Saigon Pedagogical University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Hue University of Literature.
Since 1966, Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong has participated in revolutionary activities on the literary and artistic front. He was the General Secretary, Chairman of the former Binh Tri Thien Literature and Arts Association, and Editor-in-Chief of Cua Viet Magazine. He has been a member of the Vietnam Writers Association since 1978.
Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong is the author of many literary works in many different genres such as memoirs and poems that have been well received by readers such as: "A lot of fire" (Vietnam Writers Association Award 1980-1981), "Illusionary Mountain", "Drunken Before Drinking Hong Dao Wine", "Fragrant Grass Land" (awarded by the National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations (1999, 2002, 2007).
Among them, "Who named the river" is the most famous collection of memoirs by Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong written right when Hue was in the rainy season, January 1981.
Writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong passed away after a long illness.
Writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong has received many prestigious awards such as: Vietnam Writers Association Award, 1980; Literature Award of the National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, 1999, 2008; A Prize of the Ancient Capital Literature and Arts Award (1998 - 2003); State Prize for Literature and Arts, 2007.
