On average, each day, Binh Minh Cooperative (Nha Long commune) supplies the market with about 1.5 tons of various vegetables.

The total agricultural production area of Nha Long commune is more than 348 hectares. Previously, local people mainly used it for rice cultivation. However, due to fragmented land and low economic efficiency, local authorities have encouraged people to switch to growing vegetables on ineffective rice fields.

Up to now, the total vegetable area of the commune has reached 194 hectares, an increase of 15.2 hectares compared to 2021, mainly concentrated in the hamlets: Nang, Do, Mit, and Xom.

To improve quality and productivity, the commune government has proactively coordinated with the District Agricultural Service Center to organize training courses on science and technology and vegetable growing processes according to VietGAP standards. At the same time, it has promoted the application of scientific and technical advances in production.

Thanks to that, many farmers have proactively invested in automatic irrigation systems, applied mechanization in land preparation and harvesting, and used organic fertilizers and biological pesticides.

Currently, the whole commune has 9 hectares of vegetables using automatic irrigation methods using rotary valves and 17 hectares of production according to VietGAP standards. Changing production methods has helped improve product quality, reduce labor, and increase economic efficiency.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khuyen, in Nang hamlet, shared: I have 3 sao of land specializing in growing vegetables. Since 2024, I have started applying an automatic irrigation system using a rotary valve. When using this method, I do not have to spend labor, the irrigation time is shortened to about 30 minutes, saving 1.5 hours compared to manual irrigation. Not only innovating the irrigation method, I also apply the VietGAP process to production, helping to improve the quality of vegetables, and achieve higher selling prices. These changes have helped my average income increase from 3 million VND/month to 6 million VND/month.

Recognizing the important role of linking production and consumption, the Commune People's Committee has focused on supporting the development of cooperative models. Currently, in the commune, there is Binh Minh Cooperative, established in 2020 with 58 members and a cultivated area of about 12 hectares.

Accompanying the Cooperative, every year, the Commune People's Committee creates conditions for the unit's products to participate in trade promotion programs; training on VietGAP processes. In 2024, the locality registered and supported the Cooperative to develop tomato products that meet 3-star OCOP certification. Thanks to that, the output market of the cooperative is increasingly expanding. Products are available in many supermarkets, clean food stores, restaurants and schools in the province.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hiep, Director of Binh Minh Cooperative, said: Currently, on average, we deliver about 1.5 tons of vegetables of all kinds every day, 10 times more than when we first established them. The average price of vegetables is 10-15 thousand VND/kg (depending on the type), 1.5 times higher than before. Stable output and high selling prices have helped members' incomes improve significantly, reaching an average of 6-7 million VND/person/month.

Through the application of appropriate solutions, vegetable production is increasingly effective, contributing to increasing the value of local agricultural production. In 2024, the total vegetable output of the commune reached nearly 4,500 tons, an increase of 700 tons compared to 2021; the yield reached 230.5 quintals/ha, 17.3 quintals higher than in 2021. The product value per hectare of cultivated agricultural land reached 126.1 million VND, an increase of nearly 30 million VND compared to 2021.
