CHINA - A barbecue restaurant in Hunan province has suddenly become famous after its chef created and added spicy grilled bamboo sticks to the menu.
Chef Ma said he created this unique dish specifically for young girls who like to snack late at night but are afraid of gaining weight.
"The bamboo skewers are coated with a layer of seasoning mixed with green onions and chili powder, then grilled. Thanks to that, diners can still taste the flavor of grilled meat without worrying about gaining weight," the male chef shared.
Since launching this unique dish, the restaurant's sales have skyrocketed, selling more than 100 servings a day, with a 30% increase in customers. After deducting costs, the profit from each serving is 4-5 yuan (about 17,000 VND).
One customer said: "I love to enjoy bamboo skewers when I'm on a weight loss diet. Sometimes, I even add mustard on top for extra flavor."
In response to concerns about the restaurant's ability to reuse the bamboo sticks, Mr. Ma pledged that all the sticks would be disposable, and said he planned to develop other creative dishes to attract more diners.
After the video recorded at the restaurant was widely circulated on social media, some people expressed outrage, saying that this was not a dish and instead of going to the restaurant, they could stay home and "enjoy" the noodle seasoning packet to save money.
Previously, street stalls at a night market in Hunan province also caused controversy when selling stir-fried gravel with chili.
