Abundant seafood supply
Currently, Quang Ninh has focused on investing in technical infrastructure systems serving aquaculture and fisheries exploitation in most coastal localities, focusing on key areas with a large number of ships regularly anchored and engaged in aquaculture and fishing activities such as Van Don, Cam Pha, Co To, Tien Yen, Dam Ha. The province has also introduced many policies to attract focused, targeted, and oriented investment, which is also a condition for many large seafood enterprises to choose Quang Ninh as a "good land" for investment.
Based on the Master Plan for Aquaculture Development of Quang Ninh Province to 2020, with a vision to 2030, Quang Ninh is oriented to issue many mechanisms and policies to encourage organizations and individuals to apply science and technology in aquaculture and fishing.

Van Don district is considered the largest seafood granary in Quang Ninh province. This is the locality with the largest number of households raising fish in cages in the whole province. The output of fish farming in cages reaches 800-1000 tons/year. In the days approaching the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, fish farmers here are busy selling fish to small traders, supplying orders from restaurants, hotels, and businesses inside and outside the province.
For example, Mr. Pham Van Thuong's household (Cai Rong town, Van Don district) has 200 cages for raising grouper, selling dozens of orders that have been pre-ordered every day. Mr. Thuong said that at this time, the price of grouper weighing 5kg or more is 200,000 VND/kg, fish weighing 2-3kg cost from 240,000 VND/kg. According to Mr. Thuong, this price is profitable and helps his family continue to develop the cage fish farming profession.
Quang Ninh province currently has nearly 15,000 fish cages, mainly fish with delicious meat quality and high economic value such as grouper, sea bass, cobia, and yellowfin pompano. On average, each cage yields about 1 ton of fish.
Mr. Do Dinh Minh, Head of the Department of Fisheries, said that the output of cage fish ready for sale to serve the Lunar New Year is currently around 3,000-4,000 tons, ensuring enough supply for the market.
The Department of Fisheries has reviewed and grasped the market demand situation and provided information so that cage fish farmers can plan their sales accordingly. In addition to cage fish, other farmed aquatic species such as shrimp and mollusks also have good consumption, prices have increased compared to last year, making farmers excited to welcome a bumper Tet, no longer worried about stockpiles or falling prices.
Currently, the supply of aquatic and seafood products to markets and supermarkets is very rich and abundant. Some aquatic products that people buy early to prepare for Tet such as shrimp, grouper, squid... have increased in price compared to normal days. He prawns are currently priced from 580,000-600,000 VND/kg, shrimp from 380,000-420,000 VND/kg, grouper from 280,000-300,000 VND/kg, pomfret from 200,000-230,000 VND/kg...
The total aquatic product output in 2023 of Quang Ninh province is estimated to reach nearly 177,000 tons (over 103,000 tons of aquaculture, over 73,000 tons of exploitation), an increase of 4.65% compared to 2022. The production value of the aquatic product sector in 2023 will reach over 6,500 billion VND, accounting for 44.7% in the structure of the agricultural sector.
Entering 2024, Quang Ninh strives to achieve an aquatic product output of about 187,700 tons, an increase of 5.9% compared to 2023, contributing about 50% of the production value of the entire agricultural, forestry and fishery sector. Of which, the output of exploitation is estimated at 76,700 tons, and that of aquaculture is estimated at 110,000 tons.
In addition, Quang Ninh aims to produce and raise about 4 billion juveniles on-site, meeting over 40% of the demand for aquatic breeds. 100% of facilities meet production conditions, ensure food safety, and conduct periodic inspections according to regulations. Complete licensing of marine aquaculture for qualified dossiers and issue at least 500 new certificates of registration for cage aquaculture, the main aquaculture species.
Quang Ninh province aims to release at least 5 million aquatic breeds to regenerate resources for coastal waters, rivers, lakes and dams in the area. Organize 38-40 patrols, inspections and controls at sea, along with the arrangement of a fleet of fishing control vessels operating at sea 24/7. At the same time, the hotline will fully receive and promptly verify reports from people about violations related to the fisheries sector.

Ensuring consumer needs
To ensure consumer demand during the 2024 Lunar New Year, supermarkets, distribution systems, and large stores in Quang Ninh province have promptly completed plans to increase stockpiles. At the same time, promotional and discount programs have been implemented to stimulate consumer demand and boost consumption. Stockpiled goods are strictly inspected for quality, clear origin, and ensure food safety and hygiene for consumers.
According to statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade, in preparation for Tet goods, from December 2023 to the end of the Lunar New Year 2024, the province has reserved goods worth nearly 1,300 billion VND to serve the shopping needs of people and tourists. When market demand in the province fluctuates, supermarkets are always ready to meet the need to replenish goods during the day.
Along with preparing goods, the Department of Industry and Trade also actively coordinates with the Market Management force to strengthen inspection and strictly handle acts of speculation, hoarding, and price increase according to regulations, in order to avoid disruption of supply, meeting production and consumption needs in the province, especially before and after Tet.
Currently, the Provincial Market Management Department has proactively deployed inspection plans and measures for each specific topic, field, and key area; assigned tasks and developed year-end market control plans for each management team in each locality.
The unit also sent officers directly to production and business establishments to propagate and sign commitments not to produce or trade counterfeit goods, smuggled goods, poor quality goods, goods of unknown origin... Thereby, many violations of smuggling and transportation of goods of unknown origin were discovered.
With early and remote preparation, up to this point, the distribution system in the province has supplied a large amount of goods, enough to meet the consumption needs of the people. The control of prices, quality of goods, and food hygiene and safety has also been strengthened by the authorities, ensuring the market serves the needs of the people to celebrate Tet and enjoy Spring.
The aquaculture area of the whole province reaches over 32,000 hectares, including 7,500 hectares of shrimp farming, 2,200 hectares of marine fish farming, 9,500 hectares of mollusc farming, 2,500 hectares of freshwater farming and over 10,300 hectares of other farming. There are currently 16 aquaculture production and breeding facilities in the province. Up to now, about 2.2 billion aquatic breeds have been produced and supplied to the market inside and outside the province.
