In recent days, preparing to welcome Lunar New Year, many people in the mountainous areas of Dong Giang, Nam Giang, Nam Tra My... have erected poles to welcome the new year.
Mr. Alang Ngoi, a resident of Bhlo Ben village (Song Kon commune, Dong Giang) said that this year, after many years of interruption, his family continued to erect a pole in front of the house to decorate for Tet with more color.
According to Mr. Alang Ngoi, many years ago, when his father was still alive, on Tet holiday, he often found a long, straight bamboo pole to hang the national flag in front of the porch.
There are times when the whole village hangs a flag on the top of a tall bamboo tree, both to add more colorful colors to the New Year and to pray for a peaceful new year.
"To add more color, in addition to the national flag, this year, my family hung a Party flag and decorated flashing power lines around the tree. During Tet, the lights from the tree are sparkling and very beautiful" - Mr. Alang Ngoi shared.
Not only Mr. Alang Ngoi's family, in recent days, Ca Dong and Xe Dang people in Nam Tra My have also erected poles to celebrate Tet. In addition to poles for each household, many communities erect poles together according to the water trough worshiping festival ritual.
The Ca Dong and Xe Dang people believe that the pole is a "token" that can convey messages of good luck and blessings from the villagers to the gods.
Every year, around December 28-29, the people of the Quang Nam highlands often organize spring activities with traditional festival programs. At that time, the pole is indispensable, becoming an object to convey faith, welcoming the new year...
