If you regularly find your Gmail inbox flooded with promotions, unnecessary newsletters, and notifications from rarely used accounts, you're not alone. In fact, many users experience the same problem when they use the same email address to sign up and receive emails.

Shielded Email allows the use of email aliases when registering new accounts.

Now, a new Gmail feature called Shielded Email promises to help solve this problem. The feature, which is currently being tested on Android phones, promises to create an email alias when users sign up for a new account. This means users will receive a new, disposable or limited email address to use during the sign-up process.

Gmail Inbox Will Be Less Annoying

According to Android Authority , the feature is part of Google's autofill tool, similar to the pop-ups that automatically enter phone numbers, credit card information, and addresses. Emails sent to the alias address will be automatically forwarded to the user's main email address, and the user can turn this off at any time.

Using an alias address creates a layer of protection between users and service providers, reducing the possibility of others accessing their primary email. It also makes it easier for users to delete unwanted emails without having to block or unsubscribe. Furthermore, this feature makes users’ online presence harder to track because their identity is hidden from data collectors.

In general, Shielded Email works similarly to Apple's Hide My Email tool, aiming to provide a similar security experience. There is currently no official release date for the feature.
