The district has 11,487 members, operating in 20 Elderly Associations of communes and towns and 191 branches and groups. In recent years, the Elderly Associations at all levels in the district have carried out many practical and effective activities, proactively coordinated to grasp and exchange information on security and order at the grassroots level. At the same time, the cadres and members of the Elderly Association mobilize their children, all walks of life, especially young people, to actively prevent and participate in denouncing crimes and build the movement "All people protect national security", maintain family happiness, peace in villages, hamlets and neighborhoods. Advise local Party committees and authorities to focus on leading, directing and implementing many solutions, mobilizing the participation of sectors and organizations to participate in protecting national security.

Recently, the Elderly Association at all levels has coordinated to establish 32 mediation teams with 138 members participating in villages, hamlets, and residential groups. Detected and conducted mediation, stably and promptly resolved 31 conflicts among the people right at the grassroots level. In addition, the Association, together with sectors and organizations, propagates and mobilizes children not to violate and suffer from social evils... Mr. Nong Van Tuan, Chairman of the Association of the Elderly in Thuong Cuong Commune, Chi Lang District, said: "Over the past years, cadres, party members, and members of the Association of the Elderly in the commune have devoted a lot of effort and intelligence to focus on ensuring national security. At all meetings, from Party cell meetings, activities of the Association of the Elderly to political organizations, they have propagated for people to comply well with the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's policies and laws. In particular, the Association of the Elderly has also achieved outstanding achievements in coordinating with the District Police to provide important information on crime prevention and social evils, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee."

The Association of the Elderly is also proactive, encouraging and creating conditions for members to actively participate in building a clean and strong political system. The whole district has 132 elderly people participating in the work of the Party, government, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations at the grassroots level; holding the positions of secretary, deputy secretary of the Party cell; head, deputy head of the village, residential area, residential group; head of the Front work committee; head of the association of war veterans, women, farmers, traditional medicine, etc.

Responding to the national target program on building new rural areas (NTM), civilized urban areas and protecting the environment, many members of the Elderly Association have voluntarily demolished fences and architectural structures, mobilized their children, families and clans to donate ^20,513m2 of land, contributed over 6,252 working days, and donated more than 2 billion VND to join hands with the local government in building NTM. The elderly at the grassroots level always set an example, encouraging their children to participate in cleaning village roads, alleys, hamlets, and villages, collecting waste, building incinerators, and planting trees. Thereby, contributing to maintaining public hygiene, protecting the green, clean and beautiful environment in residential areas and residential groups. In particular, the elderly in Dong Mo town also implemented the policy of the Party Committee and the town government to direct residential groups to decorate flashing lights on trees, hang lanterns in front of their houses to light up the neighborhood and households.
