Son Binh commune has 2,254 households, with 11,713 people; the commune's Elderly Association has 1,201 members, 7 branches and 60 groups. During its operation, the elderly movement has been strongly developed, demonstrating the emulation spirit of "Old age - Bright example" with many contributions to economic development, poverty reduction, new rural construction - civilized urban areas, environmental protection in the locality, and has always been of interest to local Party committees and authorities.

Despite their old age, many elderly people in Son Binh commune continue to promote their role in building the grassroots political system; the whole commune currently has 43 elderly people holding the positions of Party Cell Secretary, Hamlet Chief, Head of the Resident Solidarity Group, etc.
In the past 5 years (2021 - 2025), the Commune Elderly Association has been commended and rewarded by mass organizations and the Commune People's Committee for 32 elderly people with achievements in the movement to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas. And constantly developing the economy. Up to now, Son Binh commune has 300 elderly people applying scientific and technical advances to contribute capital, invest, produce and do business; renovate gardens, convert crops, raise livestock to create many products for families and society, so many Association member households have an annual income of 80 million VND or more, contributing to promoting rapid and sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.

Cultural traditions are embellished, the elderly in Son Binh build conventions, village rules, set an example with their families in practicing a civilized lifestyle in festivals, weddings, and eliminating backward customs and superstitions. The whole commune has 100% of families with elderly people achieving the title of "Cultural Family". The Association of the Elderly actively coordinates with the government and social organizations to organize weddings thoughtfully, meaningfully and civilly. Along with the Campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas", encouraging learning, encouraging talents, building a learning society, studying and following "Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" are widely participated by the elderly.
The elderly in the commune also mobilized their families, children, and people to contribute hundreds of millions of VND, donate 10,000 m2 of land, and 1,850 trees of all kinds to build rural roads. The local Party Committee and government highly appreciated the great contribution of the Association of the Elderly in implementing environmental protection and building new rural areas, towards a model new rural district.
To help the elderly understand more about current legal regulations, the Elderly Association regularly propagates the Law on the Elderly and the Elderly Charter. At the same time, it advises the Party Committee, coordinates with the People's Committee, the Fatherland Front of the commune and other departments and organizations to propagate on major holidays such as: Vietnam Elderly Traditional Day June 6; International Elderly Day October 1, etc. to let all members know more about their rights and raise awareness about the elderly.
With the movement "Old age - Bright example", the Association of the Elderly is always associated with building a cultural family, notably the movement of the elderly setting a bright example in building a family of "Exemplary grandparents and parents, filial children and grandchildren" integrated with the movement "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" . The elderly are always exemplary in mobilizing their families and children to actively participate in the movement "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh" , implementing the policies of the Party, the laws of the State and the regulations and conventions of the locality.
