The elderly contribute to building their homeland to become more and more prosperous and civilized.

The Association of the Elderly in Tuyen Quang City, Tuyen Quang Province has just held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (May 10, 1995 - May 10, 2025) and summarize the "Old Age - Bright Example" contest movement, period 2020 - 2025.

Attending the event were: Mrs. Ha Thi Ngo, President of the Provincial Elderly Association; representatives of the City Party Committee, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; leaders of the City Elderly Association through the periods and 80 outstanding elderly people from 15 communes and wards.

Reporting at the Conference, Mr. Ngo Van Tan, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Tuyen Quang City emphasized: In the past 5 years, the whole city has promoted and recruited 3,585 new members, bringing the total number to 18,344 members. The Association has developed a plan and organized 6 professional training courses for 745 officials, members and members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club (LTHTGN). Organized 17 inspections and supervisions of the implementation of policies and regimes for the elderly. Through evaluation, over 98% of the elderly members were recognized as achieving the title of "Old Age - Bright Example".

Pursuant to Conclusion No. 58 dated June 23, 2023 of the Secretariat, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee issued Decision No. 218 dated March 29, 2024 allowing the Congress to convert the model from the BDD to the District Elderly Association according to regulations. The Congress elected an Executive Committee of 17 members, a Standing Committee of 5 members, and an Inspection Committee of 3 members.

The Elderly Association of wards and communes cooperated with medical facilities to examine, consult, provide free medicine, and provide health care for thousands of members; and establish health records for 1,332 elderly people. 100% of the elderly people are issued health insurance cards. Currently, the city has 1,722 elderly people receiving monthly social allowances, including 390 elderly people aged 60 to 79 and 1,332 elderly people aged 80 and over.

On the occasion of holidays, the Association coordinated with Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front, and organizations to visit and present 14,482 gifts to outstanding elderly people, poor elderly people, and lonely elderly people without support, worth 2.8 billion VND. Together with local leaders and families, they thoughtfully organized longevity celebrations and wished longevity to 12,109 elderly people, worth over 5.3 billion VND.

The whole city has 1,397 elderly people participating in the work of the Party, government, and organizations; of which 80 are typical members who once devoted their youth to the cause of national liberation and building and defending the Fatherland, successfully completing their tasks, and were allowed by the Party and State to retire and return to live locally.

Responding to the campaign “All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas”, cadres and members of the Elderly Association in the city mobilized families and people to donate thousands of square meters of land and support money to build welfare works. Joining hands to protect the environment, many elderly people set an example and encouraged their families, clans and communities to change the habit of using plastic bags and disposable plastic products; classify and collect waste according to regulations, build waste treatment tanks, organic waste compost tanks at home, etc.

The Elderly Association of Tuyen Quang City awarded Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals with many achievements in the work of building the Association and the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example", period 2020 - 2025.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Ha Thi Ngo praised and highly appreciated the achievements of the City's Elderly Association at all levels in the past time. She suggested that in the coming time, the Association continue to effectively implement the patriotic emulation movement "Old age - Bright example" for the period 2025-2030; promote the dissemination of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws. Focus on building a strong Association, improving the quality of care and promoting the role of the elderly. Participate in the movements "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas"; "All people protect national security"; "Tuyen Quang joins hands to handle waste and fight plastic waste"; "Building cultural families"... At the same time, promote the role, experience and valuable assets of the elderly in participating in Party building, government building, contributing to building an increasingly rich and civilized city.

On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly awarded Certificates of Merit to the City Association of the Elderly; the City Association of the Elderly awarded Certificates of Merit to 3 collectives and 18 individuals with many achievements in the Association's work and the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example" in the period 2020 - 2025./.
