Students push teacher against wall, swearing
Don't think that violence in schools is the solution to many problems.
In the clip that went viral online, students at a secondary school in Tuyen Quang loudly cursed, pushed the teacher against the wall, cursed, and threw her slippers. I was shocked, I couldn't believe that these were the actions of 7th grade students.
Regardless of the conflict between the teacher and the students in the class, the student's actions of locking the teacher up and throwing sandals at her - considered as assaulting the teacher - are unacceptable. It is an act that tramples on the beautiful tradition of respecting teachers of the Vietnamese people.
Moral education for students should not only be limited to civic education lessons, but should be formed in the connection between family and school. Children are blank sheets of paper, so the role models of teachers, fathers and mothers are the mirrors that they look up to, reflect on and learn from.
Recently, there have been many shocking cases of school violence reported by the press. School violence - students fighting, quarreling; and even more dangerous and shocking are many cases of parents and students attacking teachers.
Students today are exposed to the internet early, they are exposed to violent images and culture on social networks. Violent messages are repeated in cartoons, comics, TikTok clips, YouTube clips... easily creating in the immature thinking of viewers that violence in schools is the solution to many problems, that is how they become "heroes", "bosses", and are praised by their friends.
Parents’ indulgence or neglect in educating their children at home is also an important factor to consider. Parents defending their children, causing chaos at school or beating teachers have been reported in the press. Blind love can easily lead to tolerance of children’s wrongdoings, believing that their children are being oppressed. On the contrary, when parents are busy with work, or when family circumstances change, children can easily feel lost, attracted to bad friends, and participate in deviant actions.

Do what you love within limits
In Montessori education, we often refer to the concept of children being "free within a framework", meaning that children are free to explore, discover, and do what they like, but within specific, clear limits and regulations. Each classroom is like a miniature society, and the rules of the school and the class are like the laws in adult society. Children need to be taught carefully about school rules, the consequences of making mistakes, and be constantly nurtured and reminded throughout each school year.
Parents must also learn and commit to teaching their children to follow these rules at home. Acts of school violence, disrespect towards teachers and adults, must be severely punished. However, this discipline is not intended to cut off the child's future path but to teach them about the serious consequences when they make mistakes. Only then will they mature and become useful people to society, law-abiding citizens.
We often talk about protecting children and students; however, how often do we mention protecting teachers and schools, especially in recent years, when more and more cases have been exposed where teachers are physically and mentally attacked? To do that, the whole society and the country's education system need to be stricter with the evil of school violence.
"Spare the rod and spoil the child" does not mean that we use violent measures to correct children's behavior, but rather the seriousness and strictness of adults to correct the wrong thoughts, rashness, and wrong behaviors of people who have not yet grown up. A permissive society will create spoiled children who think that they are free to do whatever they want, even if it harms the interests of others.
School violence is not only happening in Vietnam but also in many countries around the world, such as Korea, Japan, the US, etc., proving that this is a problem of modern society. The educational values of the past need to be reviewed and promoted, such as "First learn manners, then learn knowledge". Student ethics, focusing on building their character, promptly intervening when they deviate, are extremely necessary, in addition to teaching students a lot of knowledge.
