At the conference on information and briefing on key tasks of Hanoi city's press work in April 2025 on April 9, Director of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that in the 2025-2026 school year, the whole city of Hanoi will have about 127,000 9th grade students taking the junior high school graduation exam.
To carry out the post-graduation streaming, the city plans to enroll about 79,000 students in grade 10 at public high schools.
The remaining students, about 48,000, will study at private high schools, Vocational Education - Continuing Education centers and vocational education facilities.

Some notable new points in this year's exam include: changing the formula for calculating admission scores (eliminating the coefficients for Math and Literature) to ensure fairness between exam subjects; announcing exam scores and benchmark scores at the same time to reduce psychological pressure on students and parents.
In addition, the city also adds incentive points for students who win prizes in provincial competitions (organized at the national level), helping to increase their chances of admission and encourage students' academic achievements.
According to the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the entrance exam for grade 10 public high schools will take place on June 7 and 8 with three compulsory subjects: Literature, Foreign Language and Math. On June 9, candidates taking the exam for specialized classes will continue to take specialized subjects.
This year, nearly 118,000 candidates registered to take the exam, with more than 200 exam sites and 4,500 exam rooms arranged throughout the city. To ensure the exam is conducted seriously and effectively, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will mobilize more than 15,000 officials and teachers to invigilate the exam, 2,000 exam markers and nearly 600 officials to do inspection work.
In the coming school year, Hanoi will have two more specialized high schools under the city: Chu Van An High School and Son Tay High School. Chu Van An High School will open more specialized classes in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese; while Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted will continue to enroll students in specialized Japanese classes, contributing to expanding opportunities for learning foreign languages and promoting the movement of teaching and learning foreign languages in middle and high schools.
At the conference to summarize and deploy the work of primary school enrollment, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong affirmed that the city will continue to implement the policy of "no queuing, no jostling" in primary school enrollment, ensuring fairness and transparency for parents and students.
