'Once Upon a Time' Brings Romance Back

"Once upon a time there was a love story", a rare romantic film in Vietnamese cinema this year, brings a heartbreaking love story between three school friends.

Morning 7-8, movie Once upon a time there was a love story released teaser trailer and poster, after a series of poetic first-look photos in Phu Yen in April.

The teaser poster depicts Vinh's (Avin Lu) passionate gaze when looking at Mien (Ngoc Xuan) and Mien's gaze when looking at Phuc (Do Nhat Hoang). From there, the film opens up a story of friendship and romantic love, but no less complicated.

The caption on the teaser poster is a famous line from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh: "Friendship is the most suitable soil for love to sow its seeds."

Once upon a time there was a sad love story

On the background music of the song Far Away (Waiting for the Windy Season) by indie singer Tung, the film brings a clear and nostalgic image. A feeling of wistfulness and sadness spreads when the director Trinh Dinh Le Minh Introducing the main characters.

The teaser trailer opens with a naive question at the age of 12 between little Phuc (Hao Khang) and little Vinh (Thanh Tu) about Mien (Mona Bao Tien): "Vinh Com, I think Mien is boring, she's just quiet all day. Why do you like her?".

Responding to his best friend, Vinh confessed shyly: "I don't know either."

Witnessing Vinh's unrequited love until adulthood, Phuc urged Vinh to confess his love to Mien, but because of his shy nature, Vinh still had many doubts.

At the end of the teaser, Mien revealed that the person she likes is Vinh's best friend. Where will the love triangle between best friends who grew up together go?

Multiple perspectives, not one-person narrative

From teaser poster to teaser trailer, Once upon a time there was a love story that shows a multi-perspective story - a special thing that writer Nguyen Nhat Anh put into the original story.

Instead of a single character's narration like other works, Nguyen Nhat Anh tells the story from the perspectives of Vinh, Mien, and Phuc so that readers can feel the intense psychological conflict in each person.
