Education sector responds to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2024

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has just sent a document to the Departments of Education and Training, universities, academies, colleges, and pedagogical colleges on organizing the 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2024.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training requests that the Departments of Education and Training, universities, academies, colleges, and pedagogical colleges focus on organizing a series of activities on Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day from April 15, 2024 to May 1, 2024, with the following messages: Good books need readers; Precious books for friends; Giving good books - Buying real books; Good books: Eyes to read - Ears to listen.

Units need to promote information and propaganda on mass media with appropriate forms about the purpose and meaning of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day. Strengthen the mobilization and encouragement of cadres, teachers, employees, students, and the community to regularly read books at school libraries, community libraries, digital libraries, and online libraries on the network environment; organize diverse reading promotion activities, associated with professional work and cultural activities of the school.

The units direct educational and training institutions to promote the role of the library system, enhance coordination and connection between schools and provincial libraries, community libraries, reading clubs, and local publishers; share the content, meaning, and experiences of reading with individuals and organizations.

Regarding the organization method, the Ministry of Education and Training requires units to organize activities of Vietnam Book Day and Reading Culture in educational and training institutions. Focus on remote areas, remote areas, and areas with difficult conditions, in order to create a widespread and effective response from society; encourage the participation of the community and parents of students as well as individuals and organizations interested in promoting reading for educational and training institutions.

Organize competitions, contests, games, exchanges, seminars, talks, and discussions about books; book reading and book review competitions; introduce book records; give books and book auctions; improve professional skills in library management and operation for school librarians. Launch a movement to circulate books, newspapers, documents, and display and introduce books; build reading corners and libraries for learning together; encourage parents to accompany and support movements to build classroom bookcases in educational and training institutions.

Strengthen school library activities, diversifying in form and rich in content. Promote the application of information technology, optimize technology platforms, and digital transformation to contribute to improving the quality of library activities. In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training noted the need to strengthen propaganda and communication of the significance of organizing Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day; recognize, commend, and replicate collectives and individuals with many achievements in this activity.

Departments of Education and Training develop plans to organize Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day and guide educational and training institutions under their management to organize quality and effective activities in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day.

Universities, academies, colleges, and pedagogical colleges develop and implement plans to organize Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in accordance with the specific conditions of the school, and encourage staff, lecturers, and students to participate in activities in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day.../.
