Nga Son links agricultural production with market demand

In recent years, Nga Son district has focused on developing sustainable linkage chains in agricultural production, while encouraging people to study market trends and tastes to develop quality and safe agricultural products. This is an effective direction, not only overcoming the surplus - shortage of agricultural products but also contributing to the shift from small-scale agriculture to commodity agriculture, ensuring farmers' interests.

Efficient production organization

According to Director of Nga Truong Agricultural Service Cooperative (Nga Truong Commune) Bui Van Hong: In order for people to avoid product surplus, from 2016 to now, in addition to providing technical support for production to people, the Cooperative has searched for and signed production contracts with a number of enterprises to produce potatoes, spinach, etc. In addition, with more than 300 hectares of agricultural land, every year, with the support of a number of specialized units, the Cooperative has analyzed and forecasted the consumption demand of the market, thereby advising the Commune People's Committee on the development of suitable crops, as a basis for implementation. Thanks to that, every year Nga Truong Commune has developed 2-3 crops of associated crops with high economic value, with an average area of about 30 hectares/crop. Not only increasing the value of agricultural production, but also through large-scale production organization activities, local people have mastered the process of concentrated commodity agricultural production; Actively participate in the sustainable production and consumption chain with businesses.

It is known that in the 2023-2024 winter crop, Nga Truong Agricultural Service Cooperative has linked production and product consumption with An Viet International Agriculture Joint Stock Company and Orion Vietnam Co., Ltd. to grow commercial potatoes of Atlantics, Marabeo, Attic varieties... Thanks to effective production organization, the average yield is from 20 - 22 tons/ha; after deducting costs, farmers have a profit of about 100 million VND/ha.

Not only in Nga Truong commune but also in Nga Son district, many localities have focused on organizing production to form concentrated safe agricultural production areas to meet the increasing demand of the market. Accordingly, the whole district has maintained and developed 55 concentrated safe production areas in the communes of Nga Thanh, Nga Hai, Nga Trung, Nga Bach... and maintained production linkages and product consumption for 279.8 hectares of potatoes. In addition, the whole Nga Son district has nearly 1,000 farms and households applying food safety production measures to supply safe agricultural products not only to local people but also to provinces and cities across the country.

Mr. Pham Van Sinh, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nga Son district, said: Determining the important task of agricultural production is to be linked to the market, the district's agricultural sector has coordinated with departments, offices, and specialized agencies of the province and district to closely monitor market fluctuations, production situations, and market demand for some types of vegetables, tubers, and fruits in greenhouses, aquatic products, and specialty livestock... to guide farmers in appropriate production, limit factors affecting prices, and ensure production and business efficiency.

Market diversification

Currently, market demand has shifted to using high-quality products that ensure food hygiene and safety. Therefore, Nga Son district has promoted, trained and guided localities, enterprises and cooperatives to gradually shift from small-scale, fragmented production to large-scale production, applying high technology. Accordingly, communes and towns in the area have developed more than 35 hectares of net houses for safe agricultural production and a team of cooperative managers and farmers with production qualifications, the ability to evaluate and analyze the market to organize effective production. At the same time, flexibly and effectively apply digital transformation to promote and consume agricultural products.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, Director of Van Hoa Agricultural Joint Stock Company (Nga Thuy commune) said: To overcome difficulties in agricultural production, avoid the situation of "good harvest, low price", the company has linked up and guided people in some communes such as Nga Phuong, Nga Thach, Nga Thanh... to form agricultural production areas, creating a large volume of safe agricultural products. At the same time, every year, the company mobilizes cooperatives and people in the linked production areas to participate in training courses to improve knowledge on market analysis and management... thereby orienting production, focusing on the products that businesses need and ensuring food safety. Accordingly, the company has linked up with businesses to sign contracts to consume products for people, with a total estimated output of about 1,500 tons/year through a system of supermarkets, convenience stores and consumption via e-commerce platforms.

According to the agricultural development orientation, Nga Son district has strengthened the direction of production associated with the market. In particular, in the field of cultivation, focusing on propaganda for farmers to carry out inter-cropping of vegetables to reduce pressure on consumption; expanding the area of crops with stable consumption markets, such as: watermelon, golden queen melon, green squash, potatoes... and replicating the value chain model linking production, ensuring a stable source of goods for businesses, supermarkets, and convenience stores. In the field of aquaculture, the district encourages people to expand the area of intensive farming, applying high technology. In livestock farming, encouraging the development of specialty breeding herds and large-scale farm farming.

Along with that, based on analysis and comments from specialized agencies of the province, the district will flexibly adjust the production plan and crop structure to suit domestic consumption and export needs. Direct the construction of concentrated production areas, invest in developing industries according to the value chain, linked to processing and markets... to complete the 2024 target, the growth rate of agricultural production value reaches 3.8%, the value of products per hectare of cultivated and aquaculture area reaches 195 million VND/ha.
