On December 17, the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations in coordination with the Provincial Statistics Office held a conference to assess the socio-economic development level of Phu Tho province compared to other provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region (MD&MNPB) by 2030; and propose solutions for the following years.

Based on the research on the method of compiling the socio-economic development assessment index of the General Statistics Office, the group of provincial researchers collected information on 10 component indicators in the economic, social and environmental fields of 14 provinces and the entire Northern Midlands and Mountains region in 2020 and 2023; processed data and compiled the socio-economic development assessment index of 14 provinces and the entire Northern Midlands and Mountains region in 2020 and 2023.
As a result, in 2020, the index assessing the socio-economic development level of the Northern midland and mountainous region reached a total of 48.79 points; by 2023, this index of the region had a positive change, reaching 54.23 points, an increase of 5.44 points compared to 2020. The ranking of the index assessing the socio-economic development level of the provinces in the Northern midland and mountainous region in 2023 ranked first in Thai Nguyen province with 72.74 points, an increase of 8.98 points compared to 2020; second in Bac Giang province with 64.33 points, an increase of 6.34 points; third in Phu Tho province with 63.20 points, an increase of 6.99 points, and last in Dien Bien province with 38.65 points, an increase of 2.44 points compared to 2020.
The overall assessment of the results shows that the ranking of socio-economic development levels in the 2020-2023 period has basically reflected the actual situation and objective results achieved by each province as well as the whole region. The ranking of the provinces in the Region has closely followed the actual situation in each locality, ensuring objectivity in the assessment and ranking with the research objectives.
At the Conference, researchers, scientists, and managers commented that Phu Tho is always in the top of the socio-economic development level in the Northern Midlands and Mountains Region, and highly appreciated the province's efforts in maintaining socio-economic growth in the period of 2020-2023. Delegates discussed and clarified the causes, shortcomings, limitations and proposed to competent authorities solutions to improve the province's socio-economic development level assessment index in the following years.
In which, focusing on solutions to maintain high growth indicators as well as pointing out the causes, limitations, proposing measures to improve low-ranking component indicators, slow growth indicators, and reduced rankings such as: Current forest ratio; rate of clean water use with environmental sanitation; rate of communes meeting NTM standards; urbanization rate; inequality coefficient in income distribution... Thereby contributing to promoting socio-economic development, towards the goal of building Phu Tho to become the leading developed province in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.
