Phu Duc's journey to conquer the laurel wreath of Road to Olympia 2024.

In the final match of Road to Olympia, broadcast today (October 13), Vo Quang Phu Duc, grade 11 Math major, Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted in Hue won convincingly, winning the laurel wreath and the prize of 50,000 USD.

This is also the third time that students of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted have won the final laurel wreath of the Road to Olympia in the past 24 years.

Before entering the finals, Vo Quang Phu Duc shared that he had been passionate about the show Road to Olympia since elementary school. Later, inspired by his "seniors", the male student decided to try his hand.

In 10th grade, Duc registered to participate in "Red Laurel" - a competition simulating the Olympia program organized by the school. After many matches, Duc won the championship and was the only representative of Quoc Hoc major to participate in Olympia this year.

Despite trying to keep a relaxed mind and not trying to cram knowledge, Duc still got "stuck" in the first round of the Road to Olympia this year. The male student then told himself to stay calm, read quickly and listen carefully to the questions before deciding to ring the bell. The change was clearly shown in the quarter-final round when he won 105 points in the Warm-up round, leading and creating a 60-point gap with the second-place player.

The part of the competition that Duc likes the most is the Obstacle Course, where contestants need to find keywords based on the clues that are the answers to the sub-questions. According to the male student, the excitement and challenge of this game attracts him.

In the final match, Duc once again demonstrated that passion when the MC read the question in the first horizontal line of suggestions and the male student quickly pressed the bell to gain the right to answer the keyword, consolidating his leading position in the mountain climbing team.

The male student believes that if he takes advantage of the opportunity, the Obstacle Course will be the turning point of the competition. Candidates who find the key words early can improve their scores or create a big gap.

For Duc, the chases in Road to Olympia helped the male student gain more competitive spirit.

Mr. Le Van Luan, Duc's homeroom teacher and Math teacher, was impressed with Duc's ability to think and reason quickly - a factor that helped him overcome some difficult questions. The teacher commented that the male student was eager to learn, had the ability to self-study and research effectively, and was very sharp, so he studied all subjects well.

Three months before the final, Mr. Luan said the school would support Duc with materials to practice, research, and answer questions in areas he was not yet familiar with. Duc would read more books and newspapers to supplement his knowledge and update current events. The male student said he did not have a specific strategy, but besides practicing, he would try to keep his mind relaxed. To balance, he exercised and met friends.

Teacher Nguyen Phu Tho, Principal of Quoc Hoc Hue, said that Duc was a student of Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School - a high-quality school in Hue.

When he first entered Quoc Hoc Hue, Duc soon showed his talent for Math. He was a student specializing in Math at the school and was once a reserve for the Math team to compete in the national excellent student competition. However, Duc then focused on investing in the Red Laurel program to diligently train and practice to participate in the Road to Olympia competition and reached the finals of this competition.

“Duc soon showed his passion for the Road to Olympia competition. During his studies, Duc was hard-working, energetic, sociable, and responsible for his studies. Besides studying and training well, Duc also enthusiastically participated in school movements and union and association activities,” said teacher Nguyen Phu Tho.
