On November 8, Thang Binh District Police, Quang Nam Province, said they had just persuaded Nguyen Van Hieu (born 2002, residing in Viet Son village, Binh Tri commune, Thang Binh district) - a wanted fugitive in Cambodia, to return to Vietnam and surrender.

According to the case file, on July 15, 2023, Nguyen Van Hieu and Nguyen Van Tao (residing in Vinh Huy village, Binh Tri commune, Thang Binh district) invited each other to go fishing at a fish pond of a resident in Binh Tri commune.

While the two were fishing, Hieu borrowed Tao's motorbike to buy water and Tao agreed. On the way, Hieu met Mrs. Phan Thi Xuan (Tao's mother). Here, Hieu continued to borrow Mrs. Xuan's cell phone and said he was going to take pictures.

After that, Tao and Ms. Xuan contacted many times to get the property back but Hieu did not return it.

Thang Binh District Police investigated and determined that Hieu fled the area after appropriating the property. At the end of 2023, the Investigation Police Agency of Thang Binh District Police issued a wanted notice for Nguyen Van Hieu for the act of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

Through the investigation and information collected, Thang Binh District Police determined that Nguyen Van Hieu had fled to Cambodia. After persistently meeting and persuading his family to advise him to surrender, Hieu agreed to return to Vietnam to surrender.
