It has become a tradition that at the beginning of each spring, residential areas in the province organize longevity celebrations for the elderly, contributing to beautifying the cultural beauty of Vietnamese people, showing the respect and filial piety of children and grandchildren towards grandparents and parents.

On the morning of the 5th day of Tet, at the Cultural House of Trung Son Ward People's Committee (Tam Diep City), in the warm sunny weather of the first days of the new spring, many families prepared flowers and gifts, excitedly bringing their grandparents and parents to attend the longevity celebration for the elderly organized by the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee and the Elderly Association of the ward.

Mr. Tran Duy Doi (residential group 1, Trung Son ward) is 85 years old this year, nearly 60 years of Party membership, excitedly sharing: The fact that the local Party Committee and government coordinate with the Ward Elderly Association to organize a longevity celebration for the elderly in the spring is truly a joy and pride for us. Over the years, the elderly have always "lived happily, lived healthily, lived usefully", witnessed the development of their homeland and country and are proud that the elderly have made positive contributions to building a clean and strong Party and government...

Mr. Pham Xuan Hanh, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Trung Son Ward, said: The longevity celebration for the elderly is an annual activity organized by the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee and the Elderly Association of the ward every year on the 5th day of Tet to care for, encourage and motivate the elderly to live happily and healthily. This is also an opportunity for children and grandchildren to review the upbringing of their grandparents and parents, and at the same time show their respect and filial piety. This activity also contributes to promoting and raising social awareness of the role and position of the elderly in the cause of building and defending the country, responding to the emulation movement "Elderly people are shining examples - exemplary grandparents and parents, filial children and grandchildren".

At the 2024 Giap Thin Spring Longevity Celebration, the ward organized a longevity celebration for 268 elderly people who turned 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95 and 100 years old. The ceremony took place in a warm and joyful atmosphere when the elderly enjoyed the performances, read each other newly composed poems, received longevity certificates, participated in supporting the ward's elderly care fund... Immediately after the ward's longevity celebration, in the afternoon of the same day, 21 residential groups simultaneously organized longevity celebrations for the elderly in residential areas with the participation of many people, families, children and grandchildren...

In Trung Son ward, in recent years, the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly has been paid attention to by the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations and achieved many results. The elderly of the ward have actively participated in the patriotic emulation movement "Old age is a shining example for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland", participated in giving advice, contributing, setting examples in many fields of work, labor, production, poverty reduction, encouraging education, encouraging talents, building a learning society, building cultural life at the grassroots level, participating in contributing ideas to build a clean and strong Party and government...

Mr. Vu Xuan Dang, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Elderly Association, said: Currently, the whole province has 152,640 elderly people, accounting for 13.5% of the total population, of which the Elderly Association members are 139,862 people, equal to 91.6% of the elderly people in the province.

Over the years, the work of caring for the elderly has always received thoughtful attention from the Party Committee, government, and organizations from the province to the grassroots through practical and meaningful activities: visiting and giving gifts to the elderly on the occasion of Lunar New Year, supporting the construction of charity houses, giving gifts, supporting poor households, households in especially difficult circumstances, and families with meritorious services, etc.

The whole province has 109,856 elderly people granted health insurance cards; 1,520 lonely elderly people from poor households receive monthly social allowances; 13,089 elderly people receive monthly allowances for meritorious people...

The representative board of the Association of the Elderly in 8 districts and cities has signed and implemented a coordination program with the District Health Center on elderly health care and expanding the model of intergenerational self-help clubs for the period 2022-2025. In 2023, more than 15,000 elderly people were examined and consulted on geriatric diseases; 112 intergenerational self-help clubs were established and put into operation in 108 communes, wards and towns... Thereby, it has contributed to caring for, motivating and encouraging the elderly to "live happily, live healthily, live usefully", actively participate in economic development, build cultural life in residential areas, build a clean and strong Party and government.

In particular, the activities of wishing longevity and celebrating longevity for the elderly were closely coordinated by the Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly at the district and grassroots levels with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs at all levels to prepare conditions well, advise the Party Committees and authorities to direct the grassroots organizations to ensure solemnity and meaning. This Giap Thin Spring, the whole province has 23,040 elderly people who are 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95 and 100 years old to celebrate longevity and celebrate longevity according to the Law on the Elderly with gifts worth over 8.6 billion VND.

The spring longevity celebration has practical significance for the elderly, is a beautiful feature in the spiritual and cultural life, showing the respect of society for the elderly as well as the filial piety of children and grandchildren for grandparents and parents.
