From the 2025-2026 season, the first and second-placed teams of the National First Division will be promoted directly to the V-League. Conversely, the second-to-last and last-placed teams in the V-League will be relegated to the First Division from the following season. This change will increase competition between teams, making Vietnam's professional tournaments more attractive and appealing.

In addition, V-League teams will be allowed to register up to 4 foreign players in a match, instead of 3 as at present. Each team can use 3 foreign players on the field and 1 player on the bench.
