Quang Ninh has a natural land area of 620.8 thousand hectares, located in the Northeast mountainous region (in terms of geology and geography) of our country, with a geopolitical, economic, foreign affairs and especially important position in terms of national defense and security.
Along with its unique geographical location, Quang Ninh is also a gateway connecting inter-regions, inter-provinces and international countries. This locality is also located in the Northern key economic region including: Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong and Hung Yen.
Although 80% of the natural land area is mountainous, in recent years, Quang Ninh's economy has grown rapidly with a series of impressive numbers.
Specifically, according to the General Statistics Office, the scale of GRDP (gross regional product) at current prices in 2024 of Quang Ninh will reach 347.5 trillion VND, an increase of 8.42% compared to 2023 and ranking 7th in the country.
The processing and manufacturing industry is still the driving force, leading Quang Ninh's economic growth in 2024, increasing by 20.45%, 4.05 percentage points higher than in 2023. The tourism industry achieves the target of welcoming 19 million tourists, including 3.5 million international visitors, up 22% compared to 2023.
Notably, the scale of GRDP of this province increased vertically, from nearly 189.87 trillion VND in 2019 to 347.5 trillion VND in 2024, an increase of 83%, equivalent to about 157.63 trillion VND.
Accordingly, the average GRDP per capita of Quang Ninh in recent years has also grown impressively.
From 143.3 million VND/person/year in 2019, the average GRDP per capita in this locality in 2023 will increase to 227.1 million VND/person/year, an increase of about 58.5%.
Compared to the national average of 102.9 million VND/person/year in 2023, Quang Ninh's GRDP per capita is 2.2 times higher, and higher than Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi by 56.5 million VND and 76.8 million VND, respectively.
By 2023, Quang Ninh's GRDP per capita will only be second to Ba Ria - Vung Tau (VND 345.4 million/person/year).
The most surprising figure is foreign direct investment (FDI) in Quang Ninh. If in 2019, this province only attracted a mere 171.2 million USD in FDI, then by 2022 it had increased rapidly to nearly 2.2 billion USD and reached nearly 3.2 billion USD in 2023.
Accordingly, FDI capital in this northeastern mountainous province in 2023 is 18.6 times higher than in 2019, equivalent to an increase of 1,764%. This is a sudden growth rate compared to the general level of provinces and cities in our country in the period of 2019-2023.
Quang Ninh province's import-export turnover in 2024 will also reach nearly 6 billion USD, a sharp increase of nearly 3.5 billion USD compared to 2019, equivalent to an increase of 140.3%.
Among economic indicators, only the province's domestic budget revenue recorded alternating increases and decreases over the years from 2019 to 2023, with the peak reaching VND 42,199 billion in 2021.
In 2023, Quang Ninh's domestic budget revenue will reach VND39,207 billion, down slightly by 7% compared to 2021, but up 13% compared to 2019.
In addition to the above impressive figures, Quang Ninh is also the province that has led the country for 7 consecutive years in the Provincial Competitiveness Index PCI (2017-2023).
According to the Quang Ninh Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, Quang Ninh will become a centrally-run city by 2030 on the basis of forming an inner-city area including 7 cities.
