The only female student entered the Asian Physics Olympiad team

Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Anh is currently a 12th grade Physics 1 student at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. This female student is one of the 8 students selected to compete in the 2025 Asian Physics Olympiad and is also the only female member.

In the recent national Physics competition, Phuong Anh won first prize and achieved the highest achievement of the Hanoi Physics team.

Phuong Anh is also a familiar face in international Physics competitions. The female student won a Bronze Medal at the 2023 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad; a Bronze Medal at the 2024 European Physics Olympiad; and a Gold Medal at the 2024 Nordic-Baltic Physics Olympiad.

Thus, after 6 years, since 2019 with the participation of Nguyen Khanh Linh (student of Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa), the Vietnamese Asian Physics Olympiad team has a female member. In 2019, female student Nguyen Khanh Linh won a Bronze Medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad before winning a Gold Medal at the International Physics Olympiad.

Sharing with VietNamNet , Mr. Trieu Le Quang, homeroom teacher of class 12 Physics 1, said that it has been a long time since a female student has made it to the Vietnamese team to compete in the Asian Physics Olympiad. "Phuong Anh is a special case, an outstanding one to achieve that. Because of the nature of Natural Sciences in general and Physics in particular, the pursuit is very hard, heavy on both knowledge and practice," said Mr. Quang.

Not only is he Phuong Anh’s homeroom teacher but also her Physics teacher since grade 10, Mr. Quang commented that the female student is very hard-working and has a strong personality. “She has a great passion for Physics and also spends a lot of time on this subject. Because of her passion, she decided to put her study abroad application aside for a year to pursue the national and regional Physics competitions. In fact, Phuong Anh is more than qualified to apply for a study abroad application because of her impressive achievements,” Mr. Quang shared.

If she continues to make it to the International Physics Olympiad team, Phuong Anh will also help solve the "thirst" of not having a female member for the past 6 years of the Vietnamese team.

However, Mr. Quang commented that the competition for prizes at the Asian Physics Olympiad is even higher than at the International Physics Olympiad. “Strong teams are often concentrated in Asia such as China, Taiwan, Russia…”, Mr. Quang said.

In 2025, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted has 4 students in the teams participating in the regional and international Olympics. These are also 4 candidates from Hanoi in the list of 37 candidates nationwide participating in the regional and international Olympics in 2025.

In addition to Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Anh (Asian Physics Olympiad team), there are also Nguyen Manh Tuan (International Chemistry Olympiad team), Le Hoang Kieu Anh and Nguyen Luong Thai Duy (International Biology Olympiad team).
