Impressive growth rate

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2024, the growth rate of the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector reached 3.37%, 0.37% higher than the plan. Food output is estimated at 31.13 thousand tons, an increase of 5,564.3 tons over the same period in 2023, exceeding the annual plan by 11.17%. Of which, rice is still the main crop with an output of 296,452 tons. The output of grain food in some districts exceeded the plan, typically Trieu Phong district reached 71,912 tons/plan 67,150 tons, Hai Lang reached 90,381 tons/plan 82,328 tons.

With efforts in linking with businesses to organize production according to the value chain, up to now, the area of linked crops and product consumption in the whole province has reached more than 8,100 hectares, focusing on key products such as rice, coffee, pepper, medicinal herbs and fruit trees. Thereby helping to increase the added value of agricultural products and create stable output for farmers.

The livestock industry has developed well, diseases have been controlled, and the price of livestock products has increased, encouraging farmers to increase their herds. To date, there are 699 livestock and poultry farms (an increase of 2 farms compared to 2023), of which 135 farms apply high technology and are linked with businesses. The total number of pigs raised at livestock farms accounts for 57% of the total pig herd in the province. The livestock farming method continues to develop towards industrial farms, applying high technology and biosecurity.

Forest management, protection and development work continues to be effectively directed. The entire existing forest area of 248,189.09 hectares is well managed and protected. To date, the province has 6 units participating in sustainable forest management that have been granted forest certificates, with a total area of 26,135.65 hectares.

The aquaculture sector marked a successful year with an estimated total output of 38,043 tons, reaching 103.5% of the plan. Aquaculture developed in the direction of commodity production, concentrated; models applying high technology, biotechnology, and multi-stage farming continued to be deployed, expanded, and brought about efficiency. The whole province currently has more than 111 hectares of high-tech aquaculture.

Applying high technology, developing sustainable production

Identifying science and technology as a breakthrough that contributes to transforming production towards productivity, quality and efficiency, the agricultural sector has strongly applied modern technical advances to production such as greenhouses, net houses, water-saving irrigation, hydroponic technology, multi-stage shrimp farming, tissue culture forestry varieties... In particular, the use of drones in agriculture has brought high efficiency, helping to reduce costs, increase productivity and protect the environment. In addition, natural farming methods and organic production have been developed to meet the increasing market demand for clean and safe products.

Up to now, there are more than 50 greenhouses and net houses producing safe, high-quality vegetables and fruits; more than 11,000 hectares of crops using and applying high technology in production organization (saving irrigation system (1,000 hectares), unmanned aerial vehicles (10,000 hectares), sensor systems, IoT, smart pest monitoring systems)... There are 135 high-tech livestock farms; more than 111 hectares of shrimp farming applying high technology. The area of organic rice production, natural farming, organic, VietGAP, food safety is 1,226.85 hectares.

Successful scientific and technological activities and research have been disseminated and replicated in the province, creating positive changes in changing the habits of producers, gradually applying them to improve productivity, quality and value of agricultural products.

The National Target Program (NTP) on new rural construction (NTM) has achieved encouraging results. By the end of 2024, 76/101 communes met NTM standards (accounting for 75.25%), of which 23 communes met advanced NTM standards and 5 communes met model NTM standards. Vinh Linh, Trieu Phong and Hai Lang districts were recognized as NTM districts.

Restructuring the agricultural sector to meet development requirements

In 2025, the agricultural sector aims to continue restructuring the sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development, adapting to climate change. Maximizing resources, effectively exploiting the potential advantages of localities, improving the competitiveness of key agricultural products of the province. Implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development in a practical, in-depth, effective and sustainable manner, contributing to improving the lives of rural people, protecting the environment, security and order in rural areas, gradually reducing the gap between rural and urban areas.

Accordingly, the agricultural sector focuses on a number of key solutions such as restructuring production, exploiting and effectively promoting the potential and advantages of industries in each region, area and locality to promote the development of key products with competitive advantages. Building a value chain from production to consumption, applying high technology to agricultural production. Promoting organic rice production, natural farming, aiming to reach 1,000 hectares of organic rice by 2025. Completing and effectively using agricultural infrastructure to serve production, improving the capacity to prevent and mitigate natural disasters, and the quality of rural domestic water sources.

Synchronously deploy solutions, mobilize and effectively integrate capital sources, focus on developing organic agricultural production, circular agriculture, high-tech agriculture, adapting to climate change associated with the goal of green growth and sustainable development. Maintain and promote effective production models, especially safe food chains, production linkages...

Mobilize and integrate resources to support and improve the production and service organization capacity of cooperatives and cooperative groups, meeting the requirements of innovation in production organization and direction methods in the area.

Continue to promote the application of science and technology combined with technical training, contributing to changing agricultural production methods and increasing farmers' income. Encourage and create favorable conditions for enterprises and cooperatives to invest in developing the industry of preserving and processing agricultural, forestry and fishery products, promote mechanization in agricultural production to increase added value per unit of cultivation.

The results achieved in 2024 create important momentum for the agricultural sector to make a breakthrough, accelerate to the finish line, and complete the targets in 2025.
