Attending the ceremony were Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; Mr. Souphanh HadaoHeuang, Consul General of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Da Nang; Agencies of Military Region 5, Da Nang City Party Committee and more than 400 delegates who are veterans and youth volunteers who have directly or indirectly served on the strategic transport route to support the Southern revolution - Truong Son Road, currently living in Da Nang.
65 years ago, on May 19, 1959, the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission officially assigned the task to the "Special Military Task Force" - Task Force 559, led by Lieutenant Colonel Vo Bam, with the task of opening the Truong Son road and supporting the revolution in the South. Less than 5 years after its establishment, on April 3, 1965, the "Special Military Task Force" became Command 559. From this time, Command 559 changed from transporting support to the battlefield by backpacks to transporting mainly by motor vehicles. On July 29, 1970, Command 559 developed into the Truong Son Command.
From this point on, Truong Son officially became an important and large battlefield spread over the territory of 11 provinces of Vietnam, 7 provinces of Southern Laos and 4 provinces of northeastern Cambodia, unifying the command of Vietnamese forces operating in Central and Lower Laos.
From 1973 to 1975, the Truong Son Command had a powerful force with 9 divisions and 21 regiments of affiliated arms; more than 100,000 officers and soldiers and more than 10,000 youth volunteers.
Truong Son troops were honored by the Party and State as “Heroes of the People's Armed Forces”, and were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal and the noble Gold Star Medal; 82 units and 47 individuals were awarded the title “Heroes of the People's Armed Forces” and many other noble awards.
Lieutenant Colonel Bui Trung Tac - Chairman of the Truong Son Tradition Association, Ho Chi Minh Trail in Da Nang City affirmed that time has gradually passed, but for hundreds of thousands of cadres, soldiers and youth volunteers, frontline workers of the Truong Son Road in the past, Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Trail, the most arduous and fierce but also glorious and proud, is always deeply engraved in memory. Truong Son is still intact in the hearts of every Truong Son veteran.
