France Striker Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring and had a hand in the decisive goal to help PSG beat Brest 3-1 at home in the 1/8 round of the French Cup.

At Parc des Princes on the evening of February 7, Mbappe played the full 90 minutes, touched the ball 55 times, passed 87% accurately with two key passes, shot six times with four on target and successfully dribbled seven times.

In the 34th minute, from a challenge by Ousmane Dembele, Warren Zaire Emery passed the ball in one touch for Mbappe to escape into the penalty area. The French striker led the ball for a moment and then shot diagonally past goalkeeper Gregorie Coudert.

Mbappe has been involved in 50 goals in 28 matches in the French Cup, including 35 goals and 15 assists. Of these, he has scored 11 goals in his last four matches in the tournament. The 2018 World Cup winner has also reached 30 goals in all competitions this season, including 20 in Ligue 1, three in the Champions League, six in the French Cup and one in the French Super Cup.

Yesterday, Mbappe's goal came when PSG were under pressure. In the 29th minute, Martin Satriano curled the ball from outside the box beyond the reach of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, but it hit the post. A few minutes later, it was Hugo Magnetti's turn to be wasteful when his volley from outside the box failed to beat Donnarumma.

Four minutes after Mbappe's opener, PSG doubled their lead from a left-wing attack. Dembele drove to the edge of the box and crossed for Danilo Pereira, who tapped the ball into the net from close range, hitting goalkeeper Coudert. At the end of the first half, Mbappe missed the chance to score twice when his cross-angled lob hit the crossbar.

Brest had a glimmer of hope in the second half when Mathias Pereira Lage crossed from the right for striker Steve Mounie to head into the near post, leaving Donnarumma rooted to the spot. But that hope was quickly extinguished in the 69th minute when Lilian Brassier fouled Mbappe from behind and received a second yellow card.

With the numerical advantage, PSG sealed the victory in the second minute of injury time. Mbappe played solo from the left wing, past three Brest players and passed to Marco Asensio. The ball then went through Achraf Hakimi's feet and was crossed for Goncalo Ramos to tap into the empty net.

On February 10, PSG will continue to play at home against Lille in round 21 of Ligue 1 and then face Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on February 14.
