The controversy even reached a boiling point when Kylian Mbappe asked the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to strip PSG of their Champions League rights if they failed to pay their outstanding salary and bonus debts.
Mbappe's lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, has accused PSG of not yet paying the 55 million euros in salary and bonuses that the striker deserves. Ms. Verheyden asserted that although the legal committee of the Ligue 1 (LFP) organizing committee has ruled that PSG must pay from September 2024, PSG still deliberately ignores it.
PSG is showing contempt for the contract and ignoring legal decisions. We will not compromise and will use all means to protect Mbappe's rights, Ms. Verheyden said.
Under strict UEFA regulations, one of the mandatory criteria for being licensed to participate in the Champions League is that clubs must pay players' salaries in full.
Mbappe's legal team stressed that informing UEFA about PSG's debt situation was a necessary action to ensure the fairness and transparency of the tournament.
Although the French Football Federation (FFF) has rejected Mbappe's previous lawsuit, the striker is undeterred. He and his lawyers are preparing a more detailed case, determined to hold PSG accountable for breach of contract.
While the legal battle rages on, Mbappe remains professional on the pitch. He is expected to return to action for Real Madrid in their La Liga clash with Alaves on April 13, while focusing on the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal in the middle of next week.
